Dont you just love the word, the way it rolls off your tounge, battlepacks...damn.  Anyway what I was wondering was, are battlepacks a thing of the past or are they still being manufactured for military use?

from what I have been told battle packs are for countries that cant afford to use ammo cans....hence the battle pack IS their version of the ammo can

It looks to me like PMC still makes them that way for their military customers.

We need to figure out a way to get some of this stuff new production from SA given our current shortage. I figure that battlepacks are superior to ammo cans but "we are stuck with the ammo system we went to war with, not the one we wish we had " to paraphrase.

And that vaccuum-packed free-dried food at my sporting goods store is for people who can't afford canned soup.

I was making room for some bulk packed XM193 so I was moving my remaining SA surplus battle packs. I was remembering just a few short years ago when it was $116.00 per 1200. . I kick myself for not getting a few 2700 tubs.
If I only knew then what I know now.

I was just thinking that. How cool is it to buy "battlepacks"? Makes you feel like a kid again!

How many rounds per plastic container?

9 battle packs, 300 rounds per pack = 2700 rounds.

I've only got 3 containers of the SA stuff left.

The new-production SA ammo is all loaded to .223 specs, not to the hotter M193 specs.  And due to the UN Small Arms Proliferation Treaty and other pressures, I would not expect to see any more "military" ammo from SA.

Got a source?

Yassuh.  A source would be good.

Even better than "battlepack" for being euphonious is the term "battle rattle".  I used to irritate the hell out of my big city friends by calling their little waist/butt packs their battle rattle.

Dang.  The photo posted above makes me feel inadequate.

Sorry, source is out. I came in on the end of a sale and got the last two packs.

I disagree somewhat. Granted you can talk about the rubber seal ( the achilles heal of the cans), but the battlepacks can't withstand the abuse of metal cans.  I bought some 140 round packs of South African (?) 7.62 some time ago that wasn't stored properly. The rubber felt thin and brittle in some places and there were cigarette burn type holes in the packs as well.

The Hirtenberger battlepacks are thick rubber, but they are still going into a 50 cal ammo can for storage.

Who and where did the Hirtenberger SS109 come from?

If I knew where I could order some I'd order at least 2k worth right off the bat.  And I (more or less) have enough to last until late summer/early fall.

Very true.  AIM was selling "unsealed" Hirt battle packs for a while.  They were infested with termites, who had eaten through the plastic and were eating away at the cardboard boxes.  They had pallets of this stuff, and it took almost 2 years for them to get rid of it.

They will chew holes through it to get to stuff they like (cardboard, in this case) inside.

The termites that were getting into the battlepacks were soldier termites on a restocking mission.  Never know when they may have to fight off the army ants.
