If I put 5.56 on stripper clips and use the cardboard boxes, how many can I get into the standard 5.56 ammo can. I cleaned mine up and spray painted them- covered the info on the side. I think it was 800+. I'm about to order strippers, etc. and pick up some more cans and dissicant paks.

It was one of the ones that was till empty and I remember seeing it was for stripperclips when I got it.

If It had been below the other 20 and full it would have taken awhile.

FWIW, I prefer the 200 round 7.62 mm cans.  I can get just over 70 stripper clips and a couple of spoons inside one and it's not so heavy that I can't carry it from the car to the berm/bench/where ever.

For massive stripper clip storage, I use an "M27 Link" can, which held 800 rounds of linked M855.  When that puppy is full I need help to move it!

However, I only have this and a couple of .30 cal cans.  I'm merely a poser compared to the rest of y'all.

Mines bigger than yours. I have a 9mm can labled for fired brass. I stored my shotgun shells in it and I can't pick it up. Well, I can, but I need an adrenaline rush first. We have a great source here in NE Alabama down in Guntersville- MIKES MERCHANDISE. I wouldn't go there for a couple of years, cause I knew I would come out with a trunkful of stuff. It is the Mall of the Americas for "Stuff."

It would be great if someone had a really complete collection of ammo cans and could post pics. How about historical varieties? One of these days I'm going to get a digital camera and figure out how to post pics.

ASIDE- if there are any moderators out there, I posted a biopic, back when I had hair, and it killed my avatar. Could you restore it? Thanks

I found that 20 mm cans kick ass provided that:

1. you are prepared to lift 100+ pounds yourself, or have another guy lifting the other handle

2. you leave the ammo in it's original box.

If so you can fit 4,000 rounds of boxed XM-193 perfectly in the can.
