I'm new to AR's.  I've tried reading all that I can get my hands on (including catalogs, etc.)

I keep seeing ads for these little "broken shell" extractors or removers.  Is this a common thing with AR's or is it almost exclusive to reloads?

Thanks in advance for any comments/experiences.

First of all:

Next:  Buy a broken shell extractor for your ARs (if you have any) and one for your AKs (again, if you have any).  I have both and have never needed either - but I have been assured that if you don't buy one you most certainly will need one.

The ammo experts can weigh in here but I think this is more of an issue with reloaded (over and over again) and/or some surplus ammo than with new stuff, although I'm pretty sure it can happen with any ammo.

Better to have and not need, than to need and not have.  For a couple of bucks can you afford not to have one?
