I'm only getting 2-MOA or tighter groups using my 24" Bushmaster A2 (non-DCM and non-varminter) using a Tapco detach carry handle. I can hit a 0.5" diameter circle at 25yd without any problems (I think its equivalent to a human sized target at about 500-600yd)

Should it be tighter?

That's probably about right for NATO ammunition.  I usually get 2-3" out of my 16" M4 barrel and TriPower sight.

That's about as good as the FMJ loads get.

If you want accuracy, try some (any) match HP loads, Hornady V-Max, or even the Winchester 45 grain HP varmint "value pack" from Wal-Mart.

That Valu pack stuff works great its an accurate load for the buck.

FWIW, every rifle is different.....

Some rifles shoot quite well with the "hotter" XM-193.

The vast majority of my ARs over the years have shot tighter groups using the Winchester Q3131A M193 round that's not as hot, but well above the velocity of civilian fodder.

YMMV,
Mike

ps - IMO you should be stocking the M193 that groups best in your rifle regardless of what I or anyone else says.....

2 MOA is about all I can get out of that ammo.  The IMI seems a little better.

I have a match rifle that will shoot 1/2 MOA with match ammo.  2MOA is about right for XM193 in my rifle.  That's just fine for battle ammo.  4" CEP at 200 yards is just fine.  I would go to war with this stuff anytime.

Thanks everyone. I just wanted to make sure it wasn't my rifle. I don't think I could screw up 25yd shots THAT much which is why I started off with this range to test it out (up to about 170 rd through the new barrel).

The barrel is a Bushmaster 24" NM Heavy Barrel (same one used in their Target Rifles), its just 4150 steel with a chrome lined bore and chamber. 1 in 9 twist. Its a pre-ban/no-ban config with bayonet lug and A2 flash hider.

1.5 - 2.5 MOA is about what one expects from NATO spec ammo.  M193 tends to be a bit more skittish than heaver rounds.

2 moa is about right for M193.  It's a killing round, not a competition round.
