I noticed in the Ammo Oracle, that it is stated in at least 2 locations mentioning the British Radway Green M855 Nato ammo as being "underloaded to function in the SA80" and "nowhere near the velocity spec of normal M855". After doing some research on the web on this matter, I find British Gov't Military spec charts show a muzzle velocity spec of 3014-3144 feet per second for their M855 Nato spec ammo, which is produced by British Aerospace/Radway Green plants. This is within just a few(81fps at worst case) feet per second of the American M855 Nato spec ammo. The spec actually can go higher than the published 3095 of American spec M855 ammo, and the median is 3079fps, which is only 16fps(negligable) difference from American M855. Why is such a point being made in the Ammo Oracle, about the Radway Green ammo being so woefully underloaded as to cause possible non-cycling in some guns, and "nowhere near" the same velocity as other M855 Nato? Would Nato specs even allow this? I am using British Aerospace/Radway Green M855 Nato ammo in my AR15 carbine, and it functions perfectly, and hits the same points as my other M855 rounds(IMI). Even at distance, I don't have to make any sight adjustments for lower velocities/more drop. Please advise me if there is something I am missing here. |
| My understanding is that the Oracle is outdated in that regard. It seems that the Brit ammo WAS underloaded at some point, to try to make the SA80s more reliable. When that didn't seem to solve the problem they went back to NATO-spec velocities. I believe Troy has said as much, but the Oracle has not been updated. |
