A friend of mine has several boxes of this stuff and is trying to figure out where it came from/what kind of ammo it is.  Any help wuold be greatly appreciated.  The headstamp reads:

NPA 01  5.56x45

Its boxer primed with green sealant around the bullet and he says it gives off a huge fireball from his M4.

Anyone?  Anyone?  Bueller?

Since he has "several" boxes of the stuff, my investigation would start with READING THE BOX!

NPA = New Generation Ammunition Pty Ltd, Hennopsmeer, RSA
according to the Intl Ammo Assn @ cartridgecollectors.org.

Thats ok, I get the dingy award for not being more clear; he's got several boxes worth (200-300rds) loose in an ammo can.

As far as I can recall, NPA is the headstamp for the infamous Olympic ammo... I guess it's left in ammo can for a good reason because they work worth crap. I ordered 1k about a year back, nothing but FTE... others have horror stories about blown primers too. Check Zhukov's ammo survey, I believe it's on the bottom of the list.

Just check the website... see below

The ammo is Olympic.  I've fired plenty with only a few problems.

Another vote for Olympic. Headstamp ID that is. Not an endorsement....
