I just picked up a nice Yugo Mauser in unissued condition. I cant bring myself to shoot corrosive ammo through it. Does anyone know of a source for non corrosive ammo that wont bust the bank? I was hoping Wolf would start loading this caliber.

Why not shoot corrosive? I bought 1400 rounds of Turk 8mm for $56 (shipping is another matter).

Corrosive doesn't mean there's hydrochloric acid dripping down you barrel. It simply means that you should run a couple of swabs with an ammonia type liquid through the bore relatively soon after shooting. End of story. Windex with ammonia is a common suggestion. Sweet's 7.62 solvent. Buy a cheap bottle of ammonia at the store and dilute it to keep on hand.

What do you think Joe (Helmut) soldier did back in the war with the weapon you have in your posession? He probably shot corrosive ammo too...

I just got a new yugo 48a, and have no problems putting corrosive ammo downrange. They are "corrosive" because of the salt deposites from the old primer mixtures. All you have to do is swab the bore with G.I. bore cleaner, soak it and let sit for awhile to dissolve the salts, swab with a clean patch, then with another patch saturated with cleaner and let set for a minute or two, then clean the bore as normal (that's how I do it anyway) If you can't get the G.I. bore cleaner what Zhukov suggested works just fine. At one time All ammo was corrosive. You won't hurt your bore using it unless you shoot it and let it sit for a week without cleaning it. I've shot thousands of surplus military corrosive rounds out of various weapons and never had problems. I even had a turk mauser with a bad bore that I used as an expirement, I shot some turk corrosive ammo through it and let it sit for a few days, it didn't rust that bad, a little clp and a couple patches and it was back to normal. My advice would be to treat ALL ammo as corrosive.

P.S. Your yugo will most likely shoot better with heavy ball ammo, around 196-198 grains.

P.S., enjoy the yugo, but you might want to smooth up the stock with steel wool if it's like mine, it was rough enough that I got splinters off the handgaurd.

Ammonia is too expensive and disgusting, I just use hot soapy water.  Went thru 4 cases of Turk last month (1400rd per case) and cleaned by filling a 40 gal garbage can with water and dropping everything inside.  The Hot Shot brand is definitely non corrosive but the local guy wants $19 per box.  One hint with the Mauser is to take the bolt apart to take out the hardened grease.  A new spring would help too if you're getting too many that won't go off.

also take the bolt apart the best way to clean the bolt is throw it in dishwasher and then some gun oil

Set gun upright.
Close bolt.
Put Windex bottle against muzzle, spray 2-4 pumps down bore.
Go drink a beer.
Come back and clean like normal.

I've been using something called like Isso Bore something, its in a tube and very abrasive (leave it on tooooo long and it will etch the metal).  I put it on a bore brush and run it down the bore a few times, or on a patch.  Then swab that out and clean it with regular patches, then oil.

I also shoot corrosive ammo through my Yugo M48 Mauser. It's dirt cheap, and it shoots great. I have been buying my 8MM ammo through Inter Ordnance, they are currently sell this ammo for $44.95 for 760 rds. This will come in a wooden box with two sealed ammo tins containing 380 rds. each. This ammo is 100% sure fire. It was made in Romania during the 70s. It has a steel case, and a 153gr. boat tail bullet. To date, I have never, ever, had a misfire using this ammo.
yYou can reach them at 1 704-225 8843, or you can check out there web page at WWW.interordnance.com  ( I also use windex to clean my bore followed by CLP. To this day my bore still has a mirror finish)
