Bass pro is a great spot believe it or not for The Win USA Q3131A.  Boxes for only $3.99.  I don't think they carry the Q3131 which doesn't have crimped primers and might not be loaded as hot (correct me if I'm wrong here fellas).  Anyway Q3131A is my choice for SHTF ammo.  The box should have a number on the end, (bottom right hand corner) all of mine do.

The Q3131A is only sound in 20 round boxes, tightly packed with no spacers. Wally World sells some 45gr JHP's in the 40 round "Value Pack", model # USA2232. There's a 55gr FMJ 50 round pack, model # USA223R1 which is pretty common. You should be able to look at the side flap to see the model #.

There might be some others, because Winchester doesn't list Q3131A on their website either. I've never seen any Q3131 (not Q3131A). I believe Win stopped making the Q3131 themselves and just farms it out to IMI for Q3131A. Q3131 was an M193 spec though.

Winchester hasn't produced any Q3131 since 1999. Now they just get IMI to produce ammo for them under contract and it is the Q3131A which is excellent ammo. Winchester operated the Lake City ammo plant prior to Federal taking over there.

If you have a 40 rd box I can tell you it isn't Q3131A, but rather one of the commercial versions. It may be decent ammo but it it isn't as hot as the M193 spec stuff. The product numbers are listed on the box and you should be able to locate it on either end, down at the bottom corner of the box.

Charging_Handle is correct. The Winchester White Box is .223, NOT 5.56x45mm. Mil-Spec (5.56, or Q3131A) is quite a bit hotter than commercial (.223) loads.

IIRC, Q3131 had reliability issues, and Q3131A is the "improved" version.

FWIW, the Winny White is excellent ammo. Shot gobs of it w/ no problems. I still prefer Mil-Spec for "serious" range work, and SHTF.

OK,now I,m lost again. Like a d#@%^&& I threw out my empty Win -Usa box, could have found spec #,s so I would know what-where they are !
I posted line under( 223 on sale)have recieved several comments, some say its 3131 others disagree. If its stamped .223-55gr can I assume its standard commercial grade ammo?
Have the brass and supplys to reload so I,m going to work up a supply there but I thought this was a good buy at $2.88 bx + 10%sales tax in TN. (yes-no-maybe?)

Sorry, but you have to check the side flap for the model number. You can't divine the actual contents any other way. Call the store, and get someone to look at the box.
