I have been told that the best military surplus ammunition in .308 Win is this British L2A2.  Has anybody ever seen any?
Has anybody ever shot any?
Do you know where I can get some?

Thanks!

I have shot it and still have some sitting around. I personally don't like the ammo. I didn't find it all that acurate, and it was dirtier than other surplus I have fired. If you can find some more of the Port. surplus available buy that instead IMO.

I bought mine at gunshows about two years ago, but I haven't seen any in awhile. Good Luck.

Well, the L2A2 I have is in 400rd Brown Ammo Cans, packed in neat trays of 50rds, and is very bright and shiney. It has decent accuracy and is just as clean as the 200rd port. green battlepacks. Both fucntion perfectly in an FAL.

You can't go wrong with either!

I rate L2A2 as medicore surplus 7.62mm NATO ammo, nothing special.  Of course I rate all surplus 7.62mm NATO ammo as medicore!

Last lot I tested was to NATO spec, but no more accurate than anything else and had twice the velocity fluxuation (standard deviation) of Chilean ammo I bought for $99/1000.  (Was still within M80 Ball spec though.)

The only surplus 7.62mm I've tested that didn't meet M80 Ball specs for velocity range was the M963 Portugese, but accuracy out to 200 meters didn't suffer for it.

I pretty much buy this stuff by price these days as it's all about the same with nothing wildly different.  All shoots well in my M14 and 7.62mm NATO T26E1 (Garand tanker).

I have both single and linked in 200 round cans. Nice ammo! Some what accurate. Not new factory mind you, but good. Here are some pics. I payed $40 for 200rnds linked. I saw some going for a little less somewhere. I'll look around.

Hirtenberg 7.62Nato surplus is where it's at if you ask me.

If I could get a deal on that stuff I would likely buy 2 cases of it at the drop of a hat.   My AR10 seems to really like the stuff too.    Shame that it's getting harder and harder to find.
