223 FEDERAL 50gr American Eagle
HOLLOW POINT
I did a search in FAQ that stated it's accurate. But does anyone have first hand knowledge of it? I will use it for 300yds with 1:8 twist barrel.

What do you plan to use this ammo for? How much accuracy do you want/need? What/how big is the impact point/item/critter? From the limited info you have supplied, it can be definitely said that: 1) The projectile will make it 300 yds out, and 2) the projectile will be stabilized (both assume that it is going "normal" velocity).

I found it to be very accurate out 100 yards out of 20 inch 1/9 Bushmaster. I dont know how hot it is.

I will be using it to speed shoot @ steel plates 3in x 3in @ 300 yds. I practice to take the plated out accurately & quickly. I set up a dozen plates & try to keep my aiming time down to one second per plate.

Federal American Eagle 50gr JHP:

- Quite accurate for bargain-line ammo
- Loaded to .223 pressures (i.e., not real hot)
- The bullet doesn't expand quickly, so it would be better for the larger varmints (coyotes, etc.) than the smaller ones (squirrels).
- The brass has case walls that are too thick (low case capacity) and case heads that are far too thin, so this brass should NOT be reloaded!

Thank you Troy, I've been using a lot of the 62gr.FMJ & happy with it's accuracy. I was wondering if the 50gr JHP might be more accurate or about the same. How does this ammo stack up against the Swiss ammo or XM193 lake City that Ammoman advertises for accuracy @ 300 yds? Thank you in advance for any advice or help!

Won't go on my usual rant about Federal, but if you run into a batch of Federal ammo that is popping it's primers loose all over the place...   It's because Federal commercial ammo sucks in that department as reliability is concerned.

I've had several different batches/lots of Federal brand ammos(Amer. Eagle, Premium, GoldMedal) that barfed their primers into my fire control group and barrel extensions, in 3 different AR15s and an AR10  no less.

The stuff might be accurate but it has the potential for giving the AR owner REAL grief.
