I went to the range yesterday with 120 rounds of Winchester 55 grn FMJ R1VP this is the Winchester white box value packs of 40 rounds in a box (not the best ammo around but all I could get my hadns on) the only open slot at the range was on the 15 yard line so I decided to do some snap shot drills. low ready to fire as quickly as possible. I loaded 2rounds in the mag slapped the release dropped into position then aquired sight and fired, dropped back into low ready snapped up for a 2nd shot. When I touched off the 2nd shot I noticed that the report was very loud and recoil seemed to be a bit snappier than usual. My first though was to check my gun I peared into the inside of teh receiver saw no damage pulled the rifle apart adn went over everyting no problemss...thats when I looked up saw the target didnt have 2 .22 caliber holes in it but instead had 1 .22 cal hole and around 60 very tiny holes and tears of various sizes. Ive experienced bullets exploding or fragmenting in the air before with 22-250 firing bullets that were to heavy for the rate of twist and pushing them to fast, but why would a 55 grn fmj fragment in open air before it even went 15 yards? |
