i looked through Oracle pages and searched here but can't find any info on whether or not the fast twist rate of 1x7 will slow down a bullet when compared to 1x9 or 1x12.

i was not real pleased to see my Q3131A ammo come out of my Colt M4 1x7 barrel at 2915 fps(low) and 2970fps(hi).

any thoughts?

The velocity problem you are having is the result of a 14.5" barrel.  Take that same Q3131a and chrono it out of a 16" and a 20".

That loss is the reason I won't own a 14.5" barrel...especially when I still have to have 16" total length.  The velocity loss simply isn't worth it to me.

If I were you, then I'd post this question in another forum on this site.

(Maybe in the AR15 "Equipment" forum?)

I don't really see it as an ammmo issue either, and you may get more helpful feedback there.

What distance is your Chronograph from the muzzle?  5 yards is where M193 Ball is measured.  Last lot of Q3131A I tested was 2998 at 15 feet.  From a 1/9 twist M4.  Was 3220 +/- 22fps from a 20" bbl.  Met M193 spec just fine.

Seems I posted Chucks complete results, with his permission, over @ .223 Ammo Review.

chuck,

i was about 10 feet from the chrono. i thought 14.5 inch barrels gave better than 3000 fps but upon searching i see that some guys are getting the same results from 14.5's. thanks guys.
