| What are the down sides to shooting some of the Military surplus steel case ammo? Other than no reloadable brass. I am expecting my first AR in the next couple of weeks and am looking for the least expensive to "play". I don't reload now and my AR isn't intended for home defence (my Glock 21 and 12ga take care of that). I just want something cheap to shoot (less than 100yds)at cans, paper targets, and the occasional varmint. |

The steel case WOLF stuff is ok for plinking stuff. I was just cleaning up the 3000+ Pcs of WCC 02 Brass i got for free and there were a few WOLF Steel case pieces mixed in. I ran it through the resizing die and it sized fine. I bet it would even reload too. I may just try it to see if it can be done. Has anyone else tried this?? KyARguy |

Read a while back about a guy who reloaded Wolfe .45 cases. Lasted about 3 times as I remember. If your new AR has a chrome chamber it should work fine with Wolfe. Most do although a few have difficulty. Buy a couple boxes and TRY it before all the board "experts" discourage you. If it works, ignore them. If it doesn't, shoot some brass and try again before your final judgement. I have shot cases of the stuff in several calibers and had VERY few problems. My M-16, MAC 10 and Thompson digest the stuff in large quantities. Your experience may vary. |
| I've shot thousands upon thousands of Wolf steel case .223 thru AR15s and M16s. Never had one problem or broken anything. Just don't expect groups to be better than 3 to 4" at 100 yards. After dumping 3 to 4 mags full auto rapidly, I usually spray the chamber with WD40 and sometimes spray the loaded rounds in the mag too. This keeps the cycling smooth in non-chrome barrels and prevents and lacquer melting. No need for WD40 in chromed barrels or when shooting semi. |

I ran 500 rounds of Barnaul 62 grain HP's through my varmint AR and about 200 through my 16" carbine (neither chrome lined) with zero problems, accuracy was good enough to shoot woodchucks as far away as 400 yards. Note I said Barnaul, I tried a box of Wolf and it functioned fine but was very dirty, the Barnaul left almost no carbon fouling even when not cleaned for several hundred rounds. If I wasnt getting a smoking deal on 1k of brass ammo I woould be buying another k of the Barnaul (definitely will buy at least 500 of the 62 gr HP's for next woodchuck season). |

I buy Wolf by the case for our rapid fire drills. It will not shoot sub MOA out of my Oly PCR 3. It will shoot ten round groups in the two MOA range and we often are able to get thirty rounds in a four inch radius circle in thirty seconds. It will not hurt your weapon, but you do need to keep it a little cleaner than you might with good mil spec. ammo. In the end, if you want sub MOA performance, Wolf isn't it. If you are plinking, Wolf is great. |

i had my first malfunction with Wolf ammo yesterday. a double feed i believe to be mag related. at this point i have 1500 rds of it through the el-cheapo rifle i purpose built for plinking with cheap ammo. its a JT kit on a Century reciever. i love this rifle. on a Sandbag i can get 4inch groups at 100yd with wolf. just fine for $89/case ammo through a $525 rifle. if i havent mentioned it before, you guys should check out the Century lowers on the market. the appear to be identical to RRA are more than likely made by the same manufacturer (continental machine) $89 you cant lose! |
Bought some Barnaul myself and have had good luck with it. Pretty clean and a little hotter than I expected. |
