Guess I'll stick with Black Dog mags as they don't need adaptors.

https://i.postimg.cc/RVjVxgXV/IMG-1255.jpg

I'm really curious to see if CMMG reintroduces their Evolution short mag. They've been communicative about this, and may actually go for now that it can be an accessory for their BCG/4.5Barrel Kit.

Tbh the Adapter is easily removable. It's just a matter of popping open the upper/lower, and pulling the adapter out iirc.

Reversible and installs/uninstalls in seconds.

Yeah, I get it.

I have an adapter that pops in and out on my shotgun so it can hold 13 minishells.
The extra piece still bugs me.

I did a little fine tuning by trimming the handguard so that the ports on the short mini-brake clear the end.

Nice. Can’t even tell.

I’m thinking we might had a short handguard, too.
Maybe an MP5 style angled version.

I looked around got the shortest hand guard I could find and cut the rear off a half inch with a hacksaw. Then I rubbed the cut end back and forth on a piece of emory cloth on a flat work surface. That took a while as the saw cut was rough and crooked, but I just kept at it until the end was flat and true.

While I was fitting it, I realized (duh ) the shortened guard would no longer slip all the way onto the barrel nut as there is an inner ridge preventing it from bottoming out. So I needed to turn the nut down on a lathe to also shorten it until the guard would slip all the way flush.

Then I darkened the cut with aluminum black and put it on. The mini brake ports were just a little short and blew onto the guard. Now they're completely clear in front of it.

It's a lot of fun tinkering around with this little gun.

The guy from CMMG wrote back again to let me know he's going to see what he can do about the short magazines.
They used to sell them along with their 22LR BCG conversions.

So I'll keep checking in with him and will let you know if anything happens.

You could cover it w/ a 3-D printed cap.  I expect most 10 round AR-22 mags will stick out of the magwell.

That's why I've been following up on the discontinued CMMG Evolution short mag.
They might start producing it again if they determine there is enough of an economic incentive.

Check out the profile.

Its compact size would fit the profile of an AR22 pistol really well.

We should chop a KelTec CP33 mag, w/ a quad stack, you'd still have 15 rounds in the magwell, maybe more.

I think it looks a little wide for an AR magwell, and the dispensor doesn't appear to stick up far enough to feed.

They're also 50 bucks.

Yes the Kel-Tec CP33 magazines are definitely wider than the AR magwell. Plus they will not work with the Ciener?CMMG bolts. It would most likely take a proprietary bolt that would only work with the CP33 magazines. The top of the CP33 mag is a lot wider than AR22 mags are.

I can say that the Kel-Tec quad stack CP33 magazines do work well when loaded correctly.

I don't think there are near enough guys here to form a convincing group buy. There's maybe six posters in the Rimfire section.
However, if they do decide to make them, it will be only because they believe they will sell on their own merit generally to pistol builders.

Like I said earlier in this post, as more jurisdictions create magazine limits the market for “low cap” mags will heat up and this concept would have definite appeal. Why have a longer than necessary magazine if your limited to 10 rounds.

BTW, I have all the parts collected to build a similar “Baby AR Blaster” just don’t have the time to put it all together.

CMMG already makes a low capacity 10 round mag, it just isn't pistol friendly. Three pinned ten rounders came with my CMMG conversion kit.

No, that's my idea, so I can use my proper retro 20/30 rounders with the dedicated .22 - the CMMG/BD ones are close, but I loves me some beaters. (Would also do the same with my WASR-22 and at the very least steelies, but bakelites would be sweet too.)

Oooh, tempting, even though I'm not building a blaster. (I like cone hides - have an Inland-repro M-1 Carbine one, and one of BigRix's AR180S ones - they look properly ridiculous on my LaFrance build. )

Annoying that KaK doesn't have a guest checkout option, though.

It's a pistol scope and eye relief is at full arm extention.  It's very hard to use the scope off hand, but super accurate resting on a bench.  Maybe a red dot might work better.

Of course I wanted the KAK V4 version, only they don't offer the V4.  I wrote them about doing a V4 with no slots and a smooth front and they may consider that on their next run, but I went ahead and ordered the cone with no slots and the square toothed front end.  I'll try them as is but I have a pretty good feeling they will go on the lathe and get the teeth turned off.  Then IF and when KAK brings out a V4 with no slots and a smooth front, I'll order a pair.

Here are my 4.5” Blaster and 9” “long range” Blaster with the KAK non-ported toothed front MD.  Both have CF barrel sleeves.Attachment Attached File

While it isn't super tactical/50k+ battery life. IIRC they are made in Japan
