I may be showing my ignorance of the 9mm AR platform with this question.  I just received a QC10 Colt style bolt assembly and the firing pin looks too short.  It's difficult to explain, but it appears that if the hammer were down, against the bolt, the firing pin is not protruding from the bolt face.  My only guess is that the hammer strikes the firing pin with enough force to "slingshot" it into the primer and then the spring retracts the firing pin back into the bolt, possibly to prevent slam fires?  Is this normal and maybe someone could explain it to me a little better?  The rifle isn't finished so I have no way of knowing if it functions.

You are correct with your assumption.
I believe it's called a "rebounding " fireing pin.

When the bolt is closed and that hammer slams into that firing pin it will travel forward until something stops it. That would be the primer and it will "give" igniting the ammo. You wouldn't want the firing pin to protrude or else the firearm would fire when the bolt was moved forward with the hammer against it regardless of what was going on with the trigger.

In simple English: Its suppose to be like that.

Thanks for the answers.  I'm still new to the 9mm AR and I'm finding out there are more differences than I first thought.  I enjoy learning how my rifles work.  It's the main reason I decided to try a 9mm rather than just another AR.

Push forward against the back end of the firing pin with a allen key or something and see if it protrudes through the bolt face. My first 9mm BCG had a short pin and did not work. Had to do a return, but the supplier resolved it.

The firing pin does protrude through the bolt face when pushed in with a punch.
