I got back out to the range again. I had a few more problems with FTF and FTE. When I put the bolt in there is a small bit of interference between the barrel and the barrel collar. It's enough that I have to tap the bolt carrier in for the collar to slide over the barrel. My theory is that the interference and friction is enough that after I shoot several rounds, the bolt carrier backs itself up ever so slightly and the buffer spring doesn't have enough spring to overcome that friction to push it back against the barrel properly. Or, I could be totally wrong since this is new to me. I do have a TACCOM insert pressure plug. I have a second one but haven't tried it with two yet.
I have replaced the standard extractor for a TACCOM extreme extractor but I haven't had a chance to fire it since. I am also considering clearancing the barrel collar a bit to see if that helps but I don't want to do that without some input from others. Any input would be greatly welcome. |

Your bolt assembly could be moving which zaps energy during the firing cycle. TACCOM developed the pressure plug which sits in front of the buffer and spring which applies forward pressure on the rear of the bolt. Movement of the bolt assembley has the same effect as limp wristing a pistol. Some of the 22 rimfire bolts will hang up on notched hammers. There should be wear marks on the bottom rear of the bolt below the firing pin if the hammer is hanging up on the bottom of the bolt.
There was a post a week or two ago where a member had feeding problems which he traced to the extractor clearance on the rim of the brass case. He took the extractor out and the rifle would feed. The member adjusted the extractor to fit properly and the rifle functioned properly. Since you Cerkoted the upper is there any wear marks where the bolt is dragging on the inside of the reciever, a slight amount of drag can cause problems in blow back rimfires. You can also polish the chamber with a barrel mop with Flitz polishing compound attached to a short cleaning rod. Spin the mop in the chamber with a drill taking care not to get into the rifling. You can also buzz the chamber with a brass brush attached to a drill and CLP on the brush. If an unfired case will not fall out of a rimfire chamber with the bolt open when the muzzle is raised polish or buzz the chamber. |

Sorry for taking so long to respond. I've been tied up with some car projects that have been taking up most of my free time.
I'm still having FTE and FTF issues. I haven't had a chance to get back to the range lately but should be soon and will post up the result. |

So, I've been talking to Spikes. They're very helpful.
Seems their barrel collar is machined for the Ciener bolt and mine is CMMG. So, the collar is slightly out of alignment on my rifle. Because it's out of alignment, it does not easily slide into the upper and onto the barrel. Because it doesn't fit properly and there is enough resistance from misalignment, I had to tap it onto the barrel. It fit very tight. Not tight enough so that it didn't move slightly rearward after a few dozen rounds but tight enough that as it moved backwards a bit, the buffer spring didn't have enough resistance to push it back tight against the barrel. As it would move back, the firing pin wouldn't engage the brass. After getting the advice from someone at Spikes, I took my Dremel to the inside of the collar to clearance it so that it smoothly slides onto the barrel. It's still a bit snug but it's a lot better. I'm planning on taking a trip to the range tomorrow to see how it does. |

If the rimfire bolt is moving in the upper receiver during the firing cycle this can cause several issues. TACCOM3 sells a plug which sits in front of the buffer to add a foward push to the rimfire bolt. You can accomplish the same thing by taper a quarter or two to the front of the buffer.

Yep. I have the Taccom plug. Thanks for the input though. It is appreciated.
Seems that clearancing the inside of barrel collar and cleaning up the chamber has solved my issue. I ran about 250 rounds yesterday and it ran flawlessly. I'm extremely pleased. I love this rifle. |

Here's a link to the Ceiner/Spikes BCG. It's what I used on my Spikes barrel that I purchased from member hochimin. In talking to J A Ceiner, these are what he supplied Spikes when they built rifles. This is Ceiners Ebay sale, by the way.

That seems like a great deal. If I had to do it again, I would go that route. I already had a CMMG BCG that I used in my other rifles so I went with that. |
| Glad you got it sorted out, AR-22's are loads of fun. We had perfect weather today so I did some bench rest practice with my DPMS Bull barrel AR-15 Gen 1 22 LR and my new Geissele G2S trigger. I'm addicted to rimfire AR-15's, I currently have four and I enjoy shooting all of them. |

Went out to shoot Friday. Temp was in the 40's. Humid and misty. Also, I hadn't cleaned the rifle from my last trip to the range when I put about 150 or so rounds through it.
I was shooting cheap Federal Auto Match that I purchased in November, 2014. There were frequent stove pipes and the bolt wasn't cycling properly. I'm going to blame the cycling issues on bad maintenance and maybe a bit on the weather. I should have cleaned and oiled it before I shot. After a few drops of Hoppe's it was cycling much better. I'm going to blame the stove pipes on the ammo. It hadn't had this issue before with other ammo. Next time I get to the range I'm going to shoot a few different brands and types and see how it goes. I've had good success with CCI Standard Velocity in the past so that's where I'll start. |
