Do you guys run the Wolff ex power springs with 9mm builds, or are you fine with a standard, off the shelf buffer spring? Looking to run a weighted rifle length buffer in a rifle length tube w rifle spring and appropriate spacer. Got a tip from someone to spill the guts of the rifle buffer and fill with a brass dowel that runs the full length. I don't have a scale to measure but he said this would bring the buffer weight to approximately 7oz.
It seems most run a buffer heavier than 7oz but most are also running carbine buffer springs, which to the best of my knowledge have less power out the door when compared to a rifle spring. Should I go for the wolff anyway or will the standard rifle spring be okay in this scenario? Trying to maintain parts commonality and save a few shekels after dumping more money than intended into this, but won't cheap out for $15 if it'll keep the thing from beating itself up. |

I used the Vltor A5H4 buffer which is 6.83 iirc. This is in a carbine tube with a standard rifle length spring. The Vltor buffer is longer and elimnates the need for any spacer. The rifle spring adds about 4 coils more than a carbine spring and increases spring rate by compressing it, sort of preloading.
I would think with a 7oz buffer you will be fine with a rifle spring. Your spacer should have the same effect of increasing the spring rate a bit. Maybe go extra power if you are going to shoot suppresed alot. |
| I run Slash's Heavy Buffer AND the Wolff XP Spring. But mine is a 4.5" Suppressed AR-9. The Heavy Buffer and XP Spring does make a difference on the "bark" that escapes from the ejection port. Keeps the bolt closed just a tad longer and makes the gun quieter. If I take off the suppressor, it won't cycle AE 147gr or Rem. UMC 147gr. It will if I have a standard carbine spring. It cycles fine with and without the suppressor using S&B 115 and 124 gr with the XP spring. |
