| I tried a Chiappa complete 22 upper and the bolt would not go into battery and I changed the hammer to a rounded one, same thing happened, the bolt will not go into battery. Sent it back to get a refund. Now I`m looking at a CMMG bravo conversion kit. I have a 500rd box of Federal Lighting 40gr lubed lead, will this screw up the rest of my rifle with lead and other stuff? Will I have a lot of lead built in the barrel? Or will the gas tube get gummed up? Thanks, Jeff I`ve had this box of .22 for over 10years. |
| I run 2 different Tactical Solutions uppers on a dedicated lower, They run flawlessly with any mag I use and any ammo from standard velocity to hyper velocity. I run them just the way they are. I bought one of my son's a S&W 15 , it's as well a great AR22. Sorry, but I never ran a conv. kit in a 5.56 upper. Any 22 bullet leaves lead and crap, just spray it clean after 500 rds or so. The only issue you have is cheap ammo to begin with that's old, may give you failures. |
| If you run a conversion kit in a 223/5.56 upper it will be very dirty but I would run a bore snake after every range session and run one or two centerfire rounds after I had used the bore snake. If you do this you shouldn't have any gas problems. Plated ammo is better than straight lead bullets but the lead is just dirtier. If your barrel is 1:7 twist you probably will get poor accuracy. I've used conversions in several 1:9 twist barrels and they are great for short range plinking or shooting steel targets for CQB training. |

Before going completely to dedicated 22 uppers, I used to run a conversion kit. After every range trip firing .22, I'd remove the conversion bolt and fire a round or two of 5.56 to blow any crud out of the gas system, and maybe the jacketed bullet would help clean out the bore if any leading was starting. Only once in a great while did it take more than one round to make sure the rifle was cycling properly with full power ammo again after using it with 22.
You still need to clean with a brush or bore snake afterwards if you want to maintain the best accuracy and reliability from your rifle. |
