| Is any of the 9mm Case Deflector made from metal? I picked up a CMMG kit and the actual deflector was made of a lite weight plastic, I had hoped for something a little more hardy. |
|
Minor point of clarification which may alleviate your concerns that I picked up when I was researching building my 9mm AR? That's a gas deflector, not a case deflector. The cases will spit out 90 degrees from the port (every video I've ever seen does this) and never touch that deflector. It's primary/sole purpose and the reason it's so ugly big is to deflect the gas and crud that a 9MM AR splooges out.
I'm not running one on my 9MM ar, I went slick side upper but I'm a RH shooter primarily and I'll live with it if the heavy bolt / buffer combo doesn't increase the dwell long enough to get most of the gas and residue out the barrel. |

My 9mm uppers have the gas deflector on them. Sometimes the brass hits it, sometimes it doesn't. It isn't there to be a brass deflector, it's there to direct the blowback gas/blast away from the shooter. Any brass bouncing off of it is a side effect.
I use the deflector/short door on my 9mms to help me visually identify the upper as a 9mm upper. When I build a .40 S&W upper, I may have to do something else to help keep it separate from the 9mms. |

It's a gas deflector, but technically works as both, My pre-ban Colt's is off, doesn't change anything, I don't get hit with gas or cases, but that may change when I put the slide fire stock & Tac Con 3mr trigger together for basically full auto rate of fire. When even you speed things up usually is when shit happens, just saying |

Mine too. My 9mm upper is over 10 years old and has nicks in the deflector. The "brass never touches it" saying has been repeated over and over on the interwebs for years. Every time I hear it, I just post this video (not mine). https://youtu.be/AQ0KlR_3nWA?t=37s. My deflector looks exactly like yours 762. Brass not only hits the deflector every time, but it hits the same spot on the deflector every time. If it's supposed to help with the gas, it doesn't do much. Fast shooting steel suppressed gets smokey with a quickness. I like to share, so I make sure I'm on the left when we're dueling trees. |

What does the ejector look like on the CMMG kit? Looks like the QC10 colts don't come close to hitting a deflector. Just a brass rainbow

LMFAO!!! Ok this is getting funny, I see a trend here based on comments, videos, and personal experience. It appears Colt calls it a gas deflector and Colt's, tend to eject rounds without hitting it so it is a gas deflector. But RRA,etc call it a brass deflector and per comments they seem to be just that.. Just saying, I could be wrong but this looks like the case>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> |

I don't know about the tac con trigger but I imagine it would do the same. |

Because unlike a ar 15 which needs to locked into battery before the firing pin can engage the primer, a ar 9 or even a .22 can can get a out of battery detonation because the firing pin can come into contact with the primer before the bolt closes. The big difference between 9mm and .22 is how big of a bang it will make. From personal experience I've had the hammer ride the bolt closed and leave light primer strikes but not enough to ignite the primer saving me from a big boom. Having researched the issue the only way to fix the problem is to put sear in it which of course is highly illegal or not bumpfire and blow up my $1300 dollar gun |

Just a brass rainbow https://youtu.be/4UMsfkYKI_Q https://youtu.be/XsJfLW_Okro The deflector in those videos looks like a standard AR deflector. The 9mm deflector is about 7/8" forward of the leading edge of the AR deflector. The video in the post by "dtgman227" is what I've noticed in my builds with the 9mm deflector. |
| Well I do my loading, charging, and shooting with the muzzle pointing at my shooting mound just in case, especially when using stuff like this, remember the old sks imports that would slam fire FA from stuck firing pins back in the late 80"s, early 90"s. But I will still try it, to have a little FA like fun since I would never pay the cost for an FA firearm or registered trigger group, that's crazy IMO. I had the slidefire on one of my 22 AR builds and then both the SF stock and the Taccon 3MR trigger it not only works better than each individually but at a much higher rate of fire and it was fun but, like a pack of fire crackers going off, I want something for a big boy but still controllable muzzle wise. I think 9mm anything is perfect for that since I've only used 9mm's for punching paper anyways, IMO they are not a defense round, Uzi's, Mac's, HK's in 9mm are all controllable. I just swapped a modern ramped bolt from MAS Defense in my pre ban colt 9mm today after much emory sanding lapping compound, then polishing to make it ride fairly well in the receiver. I should have just done a dedicated separate upper build, so we'll see how it works tomorrow. |

Because the shooter next to me was firing an AK and his brass hit me (in the face!) just as I fired that round, I didn't register that it wasn't "right," so I fired again. This was a "blocked barrel" firing, and the gun did not "blow up" because of it's blowback action. I had to replace the bolt catch, the ejection port door and pin, and the upper receiver itself (just the stripped upper). The barrel was not in any way damaged, and once I got all the parts in and rebuilt the upper, I was back in business. An OOB discharge with a blowback 9mm AR should be far less of an issue, without the potential for major damage to either the gun or the shooter. With all of that said, I personally think every "bump fire" device there is out there is just a way to burn through ammunition faster. Controlled full auto fire is not really possible with bump firing; proper control of the weapon prevents bumping and vise versa. |
