Greetings all. this will be a long first/second/third post.
after being out of shooting for a few years,I decided to get back into it. this is going to be a post about my AR that will be used at the range 98.6% of the time. (so flamers, get your throwers juiced up.) let me give you a little background on why it will be a range gun. I don't have a lot of time to go "up in the hills" to shoot due to my wife's health condition. she has been fighting early Alzhiemers for the last few years,so I need to come home shortly after work to get her from her mom's. we went up in the hills above Dorena Lake right after I bought the AR,but I could tell she was getting anxious when I was firing it. new things make her nervous and/or anxious. like: getting in the hot tub sometimes, going to new places, etc. she did fire the Ruger Mark III .22,but I won't let her fire it again. she said she would have shot the AR,but hurt her shoulder in a fall a month or so back, and it's still bothering her.plus, she was cold and sat in the car most of the time.(she's always cold, and I'm always hot). luckily there is a indoor range on the way home from work. http://www.thebaronsden.com/ I can pop in there and shoot a few mags and still be home to get my wife. I just tell her mom that I will be a few minutes late, and her mom understands that I need a few minutes for myself. |
| I started off buying a couple of handguns. I knew I wanted a .45 ACP,and a Ruger Mark III .22. I went to SM Gunshop in Eugene and found a Springfield Armory .45 1911-A1 that I really liked. came with three mags and a 50 round box of ammo. I went back the next week to ask a question, and they had a like new Glock 34 9mm at a price I couldn't pass up. 2 mags and a box of ammo as well. went to the range, became a member. cheaper than I thought. for not shooting for a few years,I thought I did o.k. the AR platform is one I always wanted to delve into, but raising kids, car payments, house payments,etc.,etc.,there was just no extra money for that. now that the kids are gone, moved to a smaller house 6 months ago(smaller payment),there is some play money now. did a little research. I knew I wanted a 9mm so I could shot it at the indoor range (pistol caliber only). looked at a few shops around town, couldn't find anything that fit my price point that wasn't junk. there is a little shop in the small town I live in http://www.emeraldvalleyarmory.com/ so I stopped in there. I just always figured they couldn't beat the big Eugene store prices. he had one that was exactly what I was looking for. I bought my Ruger Mark III from them,a holster for the .45 and 9mm,all the while asking about AR's and the one he had that I was interested in. |

getting nervous,I finally plunked down the cash, thinking someone was going to buy it before I did.
It's a CMMG upper,on a RGuns 556/223 lower, with a 9mm mag block. according to Raye (owner of Emerald Valley Armory) I can switch uppers, and put a 556 upper on it. came with two mags and a nice padded bag. I also purchased 1000 rounds of ammo. after the initial test firing up in the hills,I took it to the range. really enjoyed it,and it was very accurate. In the last couple of weeks I added a red dot http://www.konuspro.com/en/site/product_description/sightpro_atomic_qr, new handguard,a grip/bipod http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/product/2-GPSLE got mine off ebay for cheap, and a light http://www.amazon.com/Orion-Tactical-Flashlight-Pressure-Switch/dp/B00BNFDQMU. not sure why I bought the light. right after I hit the buy it button,I thought, what are you going to do with that. oh well. ON TO THE PICS!!

Good luck on your firearm adventure and welcome aboard. Sorry to hear about the wife, those things are never easy...been there...done that....
I am a big 9mm carbine fan for a multitude of reasons, not the least of which is that they can be used at indoor ranges. Sounds like you 9mm AR runs well...good to hear, some have issues with them. I have had two 9mm AR's and loved them both. The CMMG was a first class piece for me. |
