Anyone have any experience with this company and their .22 upper kits?

Just ordered one from them....

I think this thread sums up the pros & cons of your upper:

http://www.ar15.com/forums/t_3_15/523472__ARCHIVED_THREAD____Chiappa_M4_22_Range_Review.html&page=2

Every now and then I'm tempted to buy one whenever my local PSA runs a sale on them and slap it on a  spare poly lower i have lying around. Let us know how it runs.

I see this is your first post so you probably haven't read the previous threads.  To summarize the Chiappa 22 upper uses a polymer upper and the barrel nut have a tendency to come loose.  Some poster have had reliable uppers and some have had problems.  The bolt is similar in design to the Tactical Solutions bolt but Chiappa does not have the quality of TS.  TS cost twice as much or more compared to the Chiappa so the buyer has decide how to spend their money.  Just don't drop your Chiappa bolt as they will not survive an impact in the recoil spring area.

Some poster have swapped out the polymer receiver for aluminum.  The Chiappa barrel is not threaded and the front sight is held in place by a set screw and not taper pins.   Chiappa customer service is OK from what I've read but a lot of their products require customer service.

ripping the junk stock A1/A2 front sight off anyway for a modular gas block.

Buddy and I bought one each back in 2010. Ran a few hundred rounds in mine before a half dozen dry fires on non bolt hold open mag followers caused the chamber to cave in on mine. The firing pin hit the soft "Chiappaloy" (their term for the special pot metal they use) and totally fucked it. My buddy got some black dog mags with bolt hold open followers and his ran until 2012 when it had an OOB and detonated the magazine with 4 rounds in it and blew the upper in half. I think he was able to use the barrel and bolt again on another alum upper since. The plastic upper and magazine were in pieces though.

I've had one for a year and it functions flawlessly.

interesting, will have to be careful with the thing I guess.  thanks for the info

Thanks for the input, now if they would just ship the thing :-) No issues with the misfires and explosions quoted here?

Mine has run 1000s of rounds through it over the last 3 yrs with 0 problems. Upper is polymer, had to tighten barrel nut, front sight and "flash hider" are held on with set screws. For what it is it was completely worth the $. ymmv.

Mine was terrible

Set screwed FSB, bent wire sling mount, loose barrel nut from day 1.

Mags fit super sloppy. I had to modify them or use older CMMGs. New CMMGs don't have the little raised tabs on the back edge.
The rocking of the mags pointed the rounds downward and the bolt would carry them under or into the lip of the ramp, it wouldn't feed.

If I pushed the mag fwd at the bottom it improved depending on the ammo. Polishing the ramp and modding the mags helped a little

After a while I gave up and bought an M&P 15-22 which never has issues. It's almost boring.

I then cut the Chiappa barrel to 8" and bought a virgin lower to make a pistol. I added a cheap Amazon rail to it but it would point downward about 3/16" due to bad threading cut into the upper receiver. I swapped the Chiappa plastic upper with a PSA forged blem and that straightened out the rail.

It still wouldn't shoot reliably so I pulled the 22 barrel and swapped in a 7.5 5.56 and a PSA premium BCG and made it a 5.56 gun.

The Chiappa parts are at the bottom of my parts bucket.

Thank you folks for saving me money by not having to buy twice.

Get a CMMG or a S&W M&P 22 AR. They have a better track record and probably better service if you have issues.

Very low quality product...most of the issues have to do with the bolts breaking and the polymer being very out of spec.  I did a 3000+ round test and periodic review on mine and resulted in swapping the guts (bolt/barrel) into an aluminum upper.  It works well enough now to enjoy some range time, but it's not the most accurate thing i can bring to the range.  I would certainly rather use a quality upper next time.

save some pain and swap the parts into an aluminum upper right away, and use a standard charging handle.

What is the issue with the supplied charging handle? Issue with contact with their bolt?

I have a couple spare standard ar-15 ones in my parts bin.

it's a cheap pot metal one. may have contact, depends on the day of the week it was made i guess!

Received it, was impressed until I pulled the bolt and charging handle out. From pics OBVIOUSLY USED items shipped as new with the upper receiver in my box ...

Nope, that's just what they look like.  When I received my upper, I pulled the bolt, cleaned it, polished it a bit in several areas, lubed it, stuck it on a Sig lower, and then shot the shit out of it with no problems...

So how does it shoot?

Not sure if that comforting to know, but will do the same.  Not sure what that rust and crap is in the groves on the lower side of the bolt.

Just removed the front sight and replaced it with a railed gas block so I can mount a bi pod under it. Mounted some optics.

Going to the range in the am to lob some rounds through it.

Still pissed it looks like a used bolt and charging handle though.

What did you expect for $230?  I was rather impressed with the overall operation and the groupings I got for the price, and it's a hoot to shoot.  I'll eventually have the barrel cut down to 4.5" and build them out with a forged upper once I'm satisfied with longer term performance...

Thats what mine looked like.
Looks like crap.
But
It works.
After fireing thousands of rounds I am very happy with mine.
