| Purchased a CMMG sierra from Brownells. I have had to return it 3 times since I received it. I Could not get it to cycle more than one round. FTF FTEject FTFire. You name it, it failed. This was using federal red box and cmmg or black dog mags on a couple different lowers. I dealt with the same person in the tech support dept. Every time the rifle was returned they said they were going to do "x" then they did "y" opposite from what I have read from this board. Brownells is taking it back no questions asked thank goodness. I am starting to wonder if the quality is still there at cmmg or did the big gun push force them to lower standards. Now I'm back to square one guess I will look at Sig 522. |

Who did you return it to for service? You do not say if it was to Brownells or CMMG themselves. Have two CMMGs. Our first was a Sierra and it worked great. It is no longer a Sierrra however. It morphed into a custom job with a Taccom ULW barrel, and other add ons. It is flawless in operation.
Our other one is factory CMMG yet and runs perfect also. Get the SIG if you desire. But I would suggest sticking it out with the CMMG if possible. I would not trade one of our CMMGs for two SIGs Also did you post this over in the CMMG Industry section here? That would be a better idea than here in the General forum. You need to send it to CMMG if you have not. Not to Brownells for service if that is what you did. I am certain CMMG would get it going for you or replace it..Goodluck |

First: Brownells is great with service but CMMG built that upper and they are the experts. They have built thousands of these things and know what works with what. They have great customer service and support their products.
Second: Your lower has a lot to do with how your upper works. With a .223/5.56 this is not so much an issue but with a blow-back .22 round trying to cycle the action the lower, particularly the hammer shape and spring stiffness, have a LOT to do with how this thing works. You never mentioned what lower you were using. Also, did you ever try this upper on another lower? I have a new Sierra upper, (just got it a few weeks back) a bottom end Plain Jane one, that I run on a low end ATI Omni lower. That rifle is 100% functional from the first round down the tube. It feed, fires, and ejects every ammo I have ever tried it it and is highly accurate with its favorite CCI Blazer ammo. (And darn good and even better with some others.) I have three different CMMG .22 uppers built at different times. All are 100% reliable and as trouble free as any firearm I have ever owned. That does not mean that someone might not have a problem, just that as a rule they are darn dependable. I still wonder about your lower....... |
| Upper was bought from Brownells. All the warranty work was done by CMMG. No notched triggers. And tried it on 3 different lowers 1 being a s&w mp. I really wish I could have stayed with a cmmg upper just couldn't deal with headaches and being told different stories. I have a conversion kit that works great from cmmg guess I will have stick with that until a Sig comes around. |

What you might have tried is to swap your bolt and rails from your conversion onto the dedicated upper... just to see. I am wondering, did you do the "How to make your .22 upper run smoother" routine that is a sticky in this section That has fixed many an issue. I would really like to know what was wrong with this as I have never seen one that couldn't be simply fixed. Not saying that you didn't have a problem, I am just wondering WTF it was that they couldn't fix it. They test fire each and ever one of these, especially if you send it back. So, you actually sent it directly back to CMMG three times, or did Brownell's tell you they sent it back? |

CMMG Quality is normally at the high end of the scale. I've had a dozen or so of their uppers and had a few minor issues. As forever4 mentioned, easily fixed. Wish I could see the upper in question. Sorry you had troubles. No company on earth can be perfect 100% of the time. Auto makers are well known for Lemons. CMMG is Not. Dave S |
