I bought a used 9mm carbine, it not come with a bolt catch installed. Can I use a regular one, or do I need a special one for 9mm?

Also, what kind of loaders do you guys use, my thumb hurts now. Thanks in advance.

Edit: Pics or it didnt happen.

I used a regular one...and I use the promag (bleh I know) loader for mine. It works well enough...far from great but saves my thumbs and it was cheap

Depends on the mag block. Some have a transfer bar that works with the factory bolt catch while others do not.

Also for a mag loader buy the LULA. Your thumbs will love you.

the mag block is pinned in, it's an Oly lower, but it's a Colt system.

I use the bump the base on a towel over a hard surface while depressing the bullets into the mag technique, works great and is free. I just ordered this from amazon as well.

LULA mag loader works great, you want the Colt SMG version. If your mag block doesn't have the last round hold open catch you can replace the standard 5.56 bolt catch with a long finger bolt catch, both Colt & RRA sell them, I've got the Colt long finger (about $20) with a Hahn non-dedicated mag block, works everytime with metalform mags.

LULA for M9 Colt mags is a good piece of gear.

Bolt hold opens/catches on 9mm Carbines tend to break often because of the longer bolt forward movement distance.  You can use quarters or a spacer (spikes makes one) to reduce some of the breakage.

My bolt catch has snapped once already and the bolt only goes an eighth of an inch or so past the catch at its rearmost travel.    Those 9mm bolts are hard on catches.  You may find that youre happier running without it.

Booze, the 9mm catch is availible as a Colt part from Brownell's,its the one I use in my pinned block 9mm.Also, strong thumbs builds character.
