I am not super familiar with the .22lr AR, but I am putting one together using a spikes barrel/collar, MRP upper and CMMG bolt. Are there any issues to be concerned with regarding head space in a rimfire caliber?

Thanks!

Only the fact that some bolts have more head space than others. It contributes to light strikes.

Head space on a .22 rimfire is normally machined into the face of the bolt. A good .22 would use about .042" or so with production rifles running a bit "looser" than that to allow for ammunition variations.

SAAMI says.......045"/.050"

match grade will be down to .042"......,045" will pretty much work for anything out there.

Tim, to me a "good" .22 is a match .22. And, like I said, production rifles will run looser...and for good reasons. Same goes for their chambers. One of my match barrels on my Ruger 10/22's warns you about removing a unfired round...it fits so tight it won't extract easily until its fired. While testing some target barrels for AR .22's we ran into some difficulties with these tight chambers. The problem was amplified by the nature of the AR platform being semi-auto and the operator shooting a LOT of ammo through it without cleaning it.
