I posted this on M4C and got a nasty reply from 1 d'bag and a "call Colt" from a moderator as he locked the thread. (You got to love the clicky M4C....What we don't agree?...locked or banned, lol)
Just picked up a brand new colt 6951 and I'm not super impressed with the fit and finish. The flat part of the flash suppressor (that the installation tool contacts) is not parallel to the sides of the gun - I have been issued, owned and fired dozens of m-16's a1/a2, m4's, colt smg's, the colt iar, colt scw, ar-15's and even an HK416 and never seen that before. While handling the gun I looked down and the handguards shifted on me. As a unit, the 12 o'clock position was now at 1/2 o'clock and the 6 o'clock was now at 7/8. Removing the handguards I observed the end cap that they sit in was loose and I have had to take them off a few times and readjust them. There was also an excessive amount of anti - seize grease seeping out of the rear of the delta ring. The magwell insert was a little dinged up. You can see and feel with your finger, the poor milling job done on the area the forward assist would be located. Both parallel to the flat top and a spot almost parallel to the rear of the ejection port. Has anyone else experienced this? Not sure how to attach pictures. |

Pretty sure the FH is an A1 style, thus not "timed" like the A2 version on the 556 rifles. Since those are "timed", they wind up with the flats oriented in a vertical fashion. So it is not wrong that your A1 flats don't line up, just a nit-picky cosmetic issue on your part.

Maybe your right, but I have been issued A1's when I was in the Army and I've also shot a couple of Colt SMG's and don't remember ever seeing that before, not even in pictures. Still there are the other issues. Is there a minimum post count before you can post pictures without a URL? |

Still there are the other issues. Colt used peel washers a long time ago for FH timing, now they use crush washers. They probably just torque the A1 down to spec and not worry about the alignment. I thought only the higher levels of paid membership got picture uploading options. There are free hosting services like Photobucket though. |

I just saw a few pictures online of other 6951's for sale and a lot seem to have unfinished milling marks near the area the forward assist would be. I guess it is standard for some reason - kind of how the roll pin holes for the 9mm magazine adapter are rough and unfinished. I just need to get to the range now and see how she shoots - that's the most important. |
