I think Ive made my decision on what upper I want to use but now its time for optics. What are people using for scopes and reddots and why?
I personaly like the nikon P22's for the money they seem like a quality scope. I would like something lilluminated but it isnt necessary. let me know... thanks -nick |

EOTech, Leapers Compact Bug Buster, NC Star's Compact Scopes. WalMart CenterPoint 4 X 16 is a large scope with all the options.
Even Adjustable Objective. Lit, Red or Green Mil Reticule, unlit Black.... Good Luck, Most anything will work from mild to wild. It all depends on your need and desired look. Dave S |

Leave it at 1x for drills and CQB, crank it up to 4x for distance and 25 yard bench shooting. $170 for scope and deluxe extended mount. |

If the range is dimly lit, iron sights might not be great, but 25-75 yard ranges don't require a scope and a dot sight might be a better choice.
I shoot 4" steel plates at 100 yards on an outdoor range with a red dot as well as with my BUIS and accuracy is not an issue. If you are shooting for tiny groups, a scope might make sense - but you're already using the wrong rifle... |

Ok heres what Im thinking now but Im confused on what is what and the differences.
opt 1 Nikon P-22 with BDC 150 retical 2-7x32 P-22 opt2 nikon Prostaff BDC 150 retical 3-9x40 pro they both look to be about the same except zoom range, larger objective lens. the Pro staff looks to have different adjusting turrets as well. can anyone explain what the difference between the BDC and nikonplex reticals are. I know one uses retical dots for distance compensation and the other uses the turret? Im still learing and the nikon site sucks for basic info like that. I understand what some are saying about scope vs dot at the indoor range. there are a limited range of dots with good magification and the .22 doesnt need a EOtech with a magi on the back of it. thanks for the info so far. keep it coming. -nick edit I think I just found the scope I want prostaff target I like the fact i can change the paralax down to 10 instead of it being set to 50y |
| My daughter's dedicated .22 has the NIKON .22 bdc its a nice scope in my opinion. The bdc has little circles for 75,100,125 yards and you zero at 50 ya it works pretty good. She can get milk jugs at 100 yards pretty easy. The nikoplex has an extra turret I believe that you turn for the other ranges instead of the circles. I will say that sometimes on black targets the bdc circles can be hard to see. Hope this helps. |

Get both!
I have a Burris 3-9x40 Euro 30mm Fullfield II with the Ballistic Plex reticle mounted on Larue Tacticle SPR-E QD scope mount. I also have a Primary Arms Micro dot with Larue HK mount. I like the option of switching between both on my Spikes ST-22 without losing its zero. My nephews love it. |

Kuehl dedicated M4ish upper wears a 4x Leupold VX-1 rimfire scope.
Spike's midlength I built to duplicate my CMMG 5.56 midlength - Eotech 512 on Larue mount with Larue 103(?) BUIS. The 5.56 has a 552 with same mount and BUIS. KKF M16A1ish on a 604 upper wears a Trijicon reflex sight (red triangle) in a carry handle mount - very easy for novice shooters to shoot at some of our public venues at the local shooting sports fairs. The Kuehl with the small Leupold is also another crowd favorite - especially among the kids and women. I've run a Aimpoint T1 4 MOA in a GG&G mount on the Spike's but decided to get it as close to the CMMG 5.56 as possible. A very nice set up is a 1.25x4 or 1-4x Trijicon Accupoint - Larue mounts - which I ran on my Kuehl for a while. Great for our club's 50 yd November turkey shoot. At 4x the triangle fits inside the turkey - my friend just put the triangle over the white center in the turkey and did very well. As my eyes get weaker its become more difficuilt to use my old Bushnells and such. Good glass makes a heck of difference for us old farts. YMMV |

The bigger tubes seem to make things brighter (maybe just psychological) and the Larue mounts make switching optics without losing zero a breeze. |

So do I - thus the comment as I am well aware of their limitations. I'm not saying it can't be done, it just carries with it more limitations. Hell, in the extreme we used to shoot at night over open sights with M16A1s, and did surprisingly well, but that does not mean I'd advocate that as the optimum solution.

ok Ive picked the Nikon 3-9x40 efr target for my new Taccom upper but my next question is what mount to go with Id like to stay with the nikon m-223 mounts and they come in two flavors flattop and 20moa. since my ranges will be mostly between25-100 yards which is my better bet? will the 20 moa make it harder to zero at shorter distances?
thanks -nick |
