Ok let me start with this.  I never understood the need for more than 2-3 AR's.  I always said its just dumb and pointless.  However, doing all the research and talking to a lot of different people on the forum (Big thanks to ShadowCop, couldn't have done this without your help through our IM's) I finally get it.  ITS FUN!  I had a smile on my face you couldn't wipe off with sand paper when I put the upper and lower together and just stood back and looked at this thing.

The only other AR I owned was a DPMS AP4 .223 16" Carbine, and a DPMS LR-308 Tac20, but I sold those to fund some other stuff I had going on at the time.  It was not nearly as fun as building this thing myself.  I am still sitting here staring at it in the corner of my room just so stoked that I actually did it!  I will be shooting it this weekend, so I am excited to say the least to see how she shoots.

One other thing that I did, and forgot to mention.  When I removed the FSB (Which was really easy to do btw as it was brand new), it left two silver strips where it sat.  So I busted out the painters tape and taped in front and after those two strips.  I hit that section with some VHT Black Caliper paint I had laying around as its good for 900 degrees.  Looks a TON better, and you can't even tell I did it as it is hidden under the hand guard.  Would have looked horrible though with those two bare silver strips.  That was another reason I went with the specter length guard vs the carbine.  I wanted a bit more rail space, and to cover where the FSB was.  I was debating on a rifle length, but felt no need for the added weight.  I may get some Magpul MBUS BUIS to put on there, unsure at this point though.

Anyways, here is the build list.

Once I'm done putting together the one I have currently, I plan on starting from scratch next time. My current was a put together pre-ban that I am taking parts off and out of to make it the way I want it. Next time I'll start with only parts I want in it to begin with. Just letting you know that I'm inspired by your example.

Very nice looking piece.

WOOOT!

She works!  Very accurate, but I was only shooting at 50 feet.  But basically one hole the size of a dime maybe a little smaller for a 25 shot group.  Just also wanted to point out, I did those shots offhand so I am positive that at 50 feet it would basically be one hole with a bench rest setup.  But I am not the best offhand with rifles, pistols are more my skill as I shoot competitively with them so I am practicing a ton more vs. with rifle use.

One thing I did, was I removed the buffer and spring and noticed it makes no difference at all.  The way this bolt is designed, the back part of it seems to lock in place against where the stock screws into place vs against the buffer tube.  So it is solid either way.

Totally different system than what you are used to. Very reliable and accurate. DPMS did a great job on these.

great job man. it felt great for me when i built my first AR from scratch as well.  now i don't ever buy an off the shelf AR, i assemble them from bits and pieces that i like, making each build just a little different.  glad it shoots very well.

the .22lr bolt system doesn't need a buffer as the entire system is captured.  some people leave it in though, it doesn't hurt and if you ever want to throw on another upper, you're ready to go.
