After reading all the negetive reports here on the forum, I was a little nervous about my purchase of this rifle. Now, after puting the first 200 rounds through it without a single hesitation, this could be my new favorite rifle. I bought this because I wanted a dedicated AR type rifle and I didn't want a plastic one. I could have gone with the CMMG but didn't want to swap uppers on my AR. This rifle is a blast to shoot and loading is easy and fast. There are a couple things that I am not real keen on though. Although the flash hider appears to be Mil Spec, it is not. The M4 barrel is a cosmetic sleeve which has the .22 barrel inside of it. The flash hider threads onto the inner barrel. I was hoping to be able to put my suppressor on this rifle but it is not possible. The other hick-up is the take down procedure. The take down pin is pretty hard to get out. You can loosen the flash hider and it makes it much more easy, but you need to carry a wrench or only hand tighten the FH.
I'm shooting the 525 count Federal blue box and like I said, the rifle functioned flawlessly. I have "heard" that some have had jamming issues. Maybe this was an earlier moddel and the issue has been corrected or maybe I just got lucky. Either way, unless you have actual experience with this rifle I would not talk it down and say the S&W is the better of the two. If you have an AR and you are looking for a 22 upper, the CMMG looks like the way to go, but if you want to buy a dedicated AR type 22, I highly reccomend this rifle. |
| The Colt/Umarex also has an adjustment screw to help tune the rifle to the particular ammo your using. Some people are just put off because of the design not being similar in parts to a true AR 15 and dislike the safety selector. It's your money and I'm glad your rifle is functioning properly. |
| Ya, the safety is a little strange as well. No, it is not a true AR but it is very close in appearance and feel unlike the S&W which is just appearance...sort of. I may still get a CMMG upper just because, but for now I'm going to blow away a lot of 22 ammo with this rifle. |
| Just curious why you are against swapping the upper off and on for a dedicated upper, takes a fraction of the time it would take to load a mag..A dedicated upper would have cost less than the Colt and you could always assemble a cheap lower for the .22 upper later..Thanks |

I'm selling one now...not because it hasn't been a great little rifle but but to fund another project. I've had no serious complaints with mine at all. It is accurate and reliable. The safety is a little odd....the fire position is in what would be the full auto position on a real M-4...that is a little different. |

Colt will probably be moving away from the Umarex Model for something more main stream
in the future. Although many have had good luck with the current model. It's really not up to what Colt should be offering. Simply because of their name and reputation. Dave S |
| My CMMG doesn't need a screw to fine tune it. 100% reliable, and it uses the same magazines as my SIG 522. Better rifle, better design. Colt is now using Umarex to make their 1911 .22's as well. Haven't seen one yet, but I hope it's a more thought out gun than their AR .22. |
