I am actively involved in building a DI AR45. Right now I am doing a lot of research, however their is no one location for information. I have read through many different pages and I am looking for clarification on certain info. I hope what I have found can help others on their quest for a DI 45ACP AR.
Info Needed: Gas port location - Specific measurements of dia. and location from the bbl ext. Bolt Carrier - Is a full mass AR bolt too heavy for 45ACP. Is a lightweight carrier needed? Buffer Weight - Standard too heavy / light? Bolt face - I have seen 7.62x39 AR bolts milled out to accept 45ACP, strength issues? Will a Bushmaster 450 Bolt work, or need fewer material removed than 762x39? Resources I have used: The Start of My Gas AR 45 Build by jonmalibuss - Showing details like Gas Port reference, bbl extension mods, many mag mods. .45 ACP Conversion Guide by TANGOCHASER - Great reference, however it is too cumbersome to get good info. Designing a Gas-Operated Pistol Caliber AR-15 by Firearms Designer - Good write up with many valid options and concerns. Modifying an AR-15 bolt for .45 ACP by Firearms Designer - Good info. Will a Bushmaster 450 bolt work better? Calculating gas port location for a DI AR-15 by Firearms Designer - Its Math! Seems like a good place to start. Possible Lowers: AR-45 by CNC Gunsmithing BAZ45 by Bazooka Brothers Interchangeable Magazine Wells by MG Industries |

Gas port is right in front of the brl nut, close as you can get the the chamber. Some just make a gas block that buts up to the brl nut & run the gas tube strait in.
Port small & work up. I use M16 carrriers so its up to you.M16 carrier I have run mine with an H buffer but it slowed down the cycle rate & made it run chopy. 450B will work. Any bolt will work as long as you open it to fit & mod extractor. The 45acp runs at 21Kpsi. Bolt will last a lifetime. I run the Baz lower & keep shooting mags. There were issues with the CNC lowers & keep shooting mags. I also mod GG mags for std lowers. |
