What is the best .22LR conversion for AR15?

I am looking to get one of these rather than going with the reloading route.  The .22LR ammo is cheap and cleaner than reloading for me.

Also, how is the accuracy when using a .22LR conversion when shooting at 50 and 100 yards?

I am currently using a .223 Rem AR 15, 20" barrel, Upper and Lower from PSA, Bushnell Elite 6500 scope.

Thanks,

IMHO the best conversion kit on the market is

CMMG Evolution India Kit

Can be purchased here for ~$300 shipped from Shadow1

The faster the twist usually translates into larger groups using 22 rimfire ammo in a 5.56 barrel.  1 in 7 usually produces bigger groups than 1 in 8 and 1 in 9 does pretty good.  The older A-1 style 1 in 12 barrels usually are the best but each barrel is unique and you never know till you try.  I have a CMMG 22 conversion kit which is probably at the top of the heap right now.  Target Masters also makes a kit which is supposed to be good.

If you are looking for accuracy you really should get a dedicated .22LR top end. It will have the correct rifling twist rate for .22LR, and you can get them with match barrels as well. .22LR usually is shot at 50 yards.

I started with just a conversion first, but i like the dedicated top end much better. Mine is a CMMG.

I've had different experiences

Aguila Super Extra Group Averages Were

1/12 4.19 moa

1/8 2.96 moa

1/7 2.07 moa

I did the most testing with my 1/12 rifle. I averaged the groups from many groupings across many different days. I've found finding a barrel and a brand of ammo that it likes is more important than what kind of kit you have. For Example the Sub-Sonic Sniper ammo by Aguila is really picky. Even between a 1/8 and 1/7 barrel I saw a difference in 8 moa. But those two rifles shooting Aguila Super Extra had less than 1 moa difference. My WOA 1/7 Twist rifle with a Cienier kit easily gets 2" groups with Super Extra.
For the best bang for your buck try shooting Aguila 38gr Super Extra. I've found it to be one of the most accurate hollow points across many different ar's, 22 pistols, and my .22 bolt actions. I've yet to find something that it does not shoot well in.

With a conversion you're pushing accuracy at 50 yards. At 100 you're really beyond the
conversions capability. Especially if there's any wind at all. If you absolutely have to go
the conversion route, the CMMG India Kit is the only one to look at. You can buy a complete
upper with a 16", 1:16" twist barrel for right at $350,00 from CMMG. Not all that much more than
the India Conversion set up..
