| I would like to know if a buffer is needed for a dedicated upper to work or are they the same as a M&P 15 /22 which has no buffer or even a hole in the tube to put a buffer and spring into. If not could I use a stock from a M&P 22 on my dedicated upper. |

Quoted:
No buffer or spring is absolutely required, at least not for semi auto use. The conversion assembly can and does move around inside the upper during firing, which can affect timing for full auto use, and can prevent you from squeezing that last drop of accuracy out of your conversion. Not an issue for the casual or semi auto shooter. A loose kit can cause light primer strikes, ftf and fte too |

Dave do you think we should run a buffer spring in my sons CMMG dedicated upper which is being used on a Aero precision lower? We have not ran one in there so far but if you thinks we should I will put it in there..Have had no problems without it though...Thanks Ifg it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you want to run a buffer and spring, it will not hurt. But since you are not having issues, it isn't necessary. Dave N |

As Dave says, if it works without it, don't worry. I have a "selection" of lowers that sometimes gets mixed around so I did as another poster mentioned and just put buffers in them. Buffers don't hurt anything. I have had times when a .22 upper or conversion did not work as well as I liked and installing a buffer solved the problem. Its hit or miss, depends on how the parts like each other.
So, if it works, leave it along. If you have some issues, try a buffer, it won't hurt anything. Good advice from what I have experienced. |
| Everyone's pretty much covered everything but if the conversion is too loose in the upper you will have feeding problems. This happened to me and I had to make something to wedge behind the kit to hold it in place. I haven't tested it with lvie fire yet but hand cycling worked perfect. If I ever get the SLAP i ordered I will test it for real. |
