.22 Colt M-16

Are they any good ?

I am thinking about getting one just to save on ammo.

It's not worth it to me if they jam a lot.

If someone has first hand experience with these please throw in your .02 Cents.
Thanks,
Alfred

If you mean the umarex (or how ever its spelled) line of "colt" .22 rifles don't buy it.
Its a huge piece of garbage that colt should have never put its name on.

There was a guy on gunbroker selling them as tomato stakes and dog poop scoopers for a while.

Ruger 1022 if you want a good reliable .22.I dont use AR conversions or play things like the M16,MP5 and AK .22 lookalikes hell Marlin makes a nice .22 or even a Henry lever action. But I guess if you want a dedicated AR looking .22 get an upper thats used with .22 only get a conversion for it and go that road.

The Colt 22 does not have a good reputation and the safety is weird.

I have the CMMG conversion for my AR.  With 700 rounds through it, this was some of the funnest money I have spent, and runs like a champ.

My son has the M&P15-22 and it is a sweet little carbine.  Definitely worth the money spent.

The nice part about the conversion is that I can train with the same gun/setup.

Well it's a good thing I asked before I went and got one.

I'll get a Ruger 10/22 instead.

Surprises me it would even have the COLT name on it if it's that bad.

Thanks guys.

Sadly, this post is completely accurate. It pains me that Colt allowed their name to be put on such a piece of garbage.

I would suggest either a dedicated upper, the S&W 22, or even the Sig 522 if you want to have some fun. Bought my daughter the Sig as a graduation gift last year and we've had a ball with it Very well put together and fun as hell.

If you are looking simply for a drop-in kit for your 5.56 AR, I've had good luck with the CMMG kits.

Good luck!

ETA: Not an AR (obviously), but a TON of fun nonetheless:

The Sig runs BDM mags, which are reasonably priced and plentiful.

There was thread sometime back which featured a dealer who was selling them on Gunbroker. The dealer was so fed up with the gun that he was selling them as  toilet plungers, garden stakes. etc...it was hilarious.

Look over in the Rimfire section..We just completed a complete rifle assembly using the CMMG dedicated upper and a low priced reciever..We also considered the SW or Colt for him but we built the "real" AR 22 for just slightly more than a Colt or Smith factory one and he can later put his own 5.56 upper on it too, cannot do that with the other two..The Colt is Garbage but have heard good things about the SW..
