I have a CMMG and a Spike's .22 upper that I purchased recently. I haven't had much of a chance to shoot either one of them. I might have 300 rounds thru the CMMG and  50 rounds thru the Spike's. My time was limited the first time with the Spikes and I only got to shoot a few Federal Bulk and Winchester 333s. Out of the 50 rounds, I had several jams. Empty cases got caught up between the charging handle and the bolt. I took both to the range tonight and the CMMG was flawless thru 100 rounds of Federal Bulk, Win 333 and CCI Mini Mag Solids. I tried some 333s, bulk and Mini Mags in the Spike's and had problems with jams again. I removed the anti-jam charging handle from the CMMG and installed it in the Spike's. Voila - problem solved! I put 50 333s, 50 Fed Bulk and a 100 Mini Mags down range. This little upper runs great now and is VERY accurate. It seems that the anti-jam charging handle really does its job as advertised. Think I'm going to have to pick up one for each of my .22 uppers.

Very Cool, side by side comparison... Everyone has kinda
not wanted to try the anti jam charging handle because it's
plastic... CMMG makes 2 versions, one for the Conversions
and one for dedicated 22's.. The plastic is some space age
stuff that hits the table when dropped like it's metal and,
they work...

This range report reinforces that the 2 uppers, given all things
equal, perform equally well. Thanks for doing this write up Tom...

Good to hear from someone besides Dave and myself that these do in fact work well.

Good comparison, rman.  Did you use the same magazines with both uppers?

Dave (South),

There is no doubt in my mind that the charging handle works and I don't care what it's made of. The same folks who would hesitate to buy them are probably the same people who won't try a polymer-framed handgun, i.e.; Glock, S&W M&P, Springfield XD, Ruger SR, etc. Hell, even Sig and STI are getting into the act. I like metal and wood as good as the next guy, but I won't stick my head in the sand and pretend that polymer is only for toys and air soft guns. I even have a Plum Crazy lower with a 5.56 upper and so far it's working quite well!

The one thing that is not equal with these 2 uppers is accuracy. I wasn't even trying hard to shoot good groups with the Spike's and I was knocking the 1" center out of the target at 25 yards. It seemed to do about equally well with Fed, Win and CCI. I'm not getting good groups out of the CMMG at all. 1.5 - 2" inch groups at 25 yards are the norm. I haven't had a chance to try any of my target ammo or CCI Std Vel through it yet. Hopefully, when I get more time, I can find ammo that shoots well in it. I love this upper because it is rock-solid, and 100% reliable.

Accuracy is a little off on the CMMG. Mine shoots a little over 1" at 50 yards with CCI mini mags.
1.295 with Winchester 550 bulk at 50.

The CMMG may not be as accurate as the Spike's with the same ammo.
And, you have to take into account the CMMG is $200.00 less expensive.
That being with the standard barrels on both. As I said they perform equally
well. I haven't done a lot of accuracy testing with the CMMG, I left that for Dave
North I've just been having fun blasting targets like I started my testing with.
Shooting tactical, it has been more that sufficient for my purposes. I'll try some
target ammo when I go next time and make myself get serious for one trip.

It works so well, it's just a fun gun to shoot...

PS: installing a Clint Beyer Barrel will bring the price of the CMMG up but the
accuracy potential goes through the roof...

Yes I was using the same 15-round Black Dog mag in both rifles. (Only because I forgot to take any extras.)
