I have not been able to get a clear answer from any locally. Does the CMMG .22lr Conversion Kit Damage your barrel when shooting .22LR thru a .223 Barrel?
I have heard yes it does and it would be better to just buy a .22LR like SR-22 or M&P 15-22 I have hear No and it is safe and fine to do, just make sure you clean real good Thanks |

You will need to play with it and see. Depending on the range and the ammo you sighted in with it may be close or may be way off. Also remember that the .22 upper is usually like a 1 in 16 twist ( I believe) and that the .22 in a .223 1 in 9 (or whatever you have) won't be as accurate. You have to ask yourself if you want this for fun/plinking on your AR lower for cost savings or if you want something more accurate.
I have both the CMMG conversion and later got a smokin deal on the .22 upper. I shoot the .22 upper and have yet to shoot the conversion kit. |

What kindof 22 upper did you get abd what was the cost? I can't decide what I want because nobody has the kit or me to try out. That is the frustration with thus stuff. If I could try components out first I would buy a lot more! Haha CMMG, got it from Palmetto State Armory. 16" flattop. They had them on sale for something like $350. Hope Spec's thread has helped. |
| Shooting 22lr through your barrel WILL NOT hurt it. You should use 36gr ammo in your conversion, that's what they were designed for. If you are going to go back and forth between 22lr and 223 you will need to run a few (ie 5+/-) rounds of 223 for every 500 or so rounds of 22lr you fire in order to keep your gas tube clean. POI is likely to change some. On the kit I run POI shifted about 2 inches to the right and 1 inch lower at 25 yards. As for accuracy in a 1:9 barrel, I've been getting under 2 inch groups with open sights at 25 yards. My guess is that would improve with an optic or a better shooter. IMO for what it is accuracy is more than adequate. I have 4000+ rounds through a kit with no problems. Alot of fun to shot and well worth the price. |

I used to be in the it does no damage camp I clean my rifles to boot camp standard every time I shoot. And I still managed to screw up my LMT upper.
I lost track of how many.22 I had put through it since the last 5.56 rds, I loaded up with 5.56 and I had a bolt actoin AR(not for the fist time being a Brit) it appears I've managed to foul the gas port In summary remember to fire 5.56 regularly! |
