| So which one would you guys recommend? there are so many out there any to stay away from? also would you guys just buy an upper or do the whole rifle......I already own a couple ARs. Would my AR lowers having a 2 stage trigger be an issue? |

I'm no expert, but I'll throw in my 2 cents worth. I have 2 TacSol uppers, an M4 and an LT. Both are reliable and accurate, but they take some tinkering to get them to work with some triggers. I like RRA NM 2-stage triggers and after some fiddling they both work fine. I also have a Nordic upper and it works great with the RRA NM, Geissele SSA and standard AR15 FCGs. I have a CMMG M4 lower and it's not picky about triggers either.
IMHO, if I already had a couple of lowers on hand, I would buy the CMMG upper. They are reasonably priced and don't seem to be picky about triggers or ammo and have a lot of new innovations not found on the others. My second choice would be a Nordic. These choices are based on simplicity if you plan to use anything other than a standard trigger with an un-notched hammer. If you don't mind doing a little tuning, the TacSols are great also. Tom |

I have an older 1-12 barrel that I use a conversion kit in when I want to shoot 22lr.
If I were to buy one of the recent 22lr AR's it would be the Smith. The controls are 100% from all that I've read. The only problem I've had with my conversion is that it's sometimes finicky about functioning with different ammo, and I had to go to a reduced power hammer spring to allow the bolt to fully function every time. |

CMMG is real hard to beat for price, reliability, features, function and customer service. I would recommend the stainless bcg up grade. No break in, easy to clean, very reliable.
The CMMG has so many features the other kits do not. Mil spec upper receivers instead of polymer. It will fit any 5.56 AR lower. Forward assist, true bolt hold open option, full auto option, the bcg actually snaps to the barrel instead of slipping over it, cotter key holding the firing pin, roll pin holding the extractor, live round extraction and others. I have put over 5000 rounds through my M4 LE .22 with 3 FTE's. I've run several different types of ammo. Remingtons can be problematic, but mine seems to shoot them now. I've shot .807 with Eley Match from a stock barrel at 50 yards. 1.2 with CCI Mini Mags. I would get a dedicated upper. They start at $350. Dave |

I have two Spike's .22 ARs and absolutely love them –– thousands of rounds of bulk ammo without issue, both suppressed and not. I also have an old CZ-22 upper that has been great, but AFAIK they are no longer imported and hard to find a good deal on these days. No experience with the CMMG but I read almost universally good things –– I'm seriously considering getting one of their drop-in conversions and a couple of mags for when I'm travelling with one of my centerfire ARs and don't want to carry a second rifle but might want at least the option of shooting some .22 along the way. |
| I use a CMMG conversion but if I were to buy a dedicated .22lr it would have to be CMMG since it is the best quality I have personally seen in a complete rifle. I think any will do fine for your needs but CMMG's quality is the best from my experience with Spike's being a close second. |

The only experience I have with a 22lr AR is with the CMMG upper with stainless bolt I bought several months ago. It feels and works like a real AR and I don't see how any other manafacturer could beat it's reliability, accuracy, and features at the price they are selling them for. It has turned into one of my favorites and every time I go to the range it goes with me ETA: CMMG does recommend using a rounded hammer with their uppers to ensure proper function. |

In tactical .22s, for non-milspec, the S&W M&P 15/22 and Sig 522 are the only ones to look at.
For milspec, CMMG, Spike's tactical, TacSol on a milspec lower, many others, so long as they're not Velocity. Stay away from non milspec look-alikes like the Colt, HK416, and GSG. |
| If you wanted to build your own upper I would say that you should go with the CMMG barrel and bolt as the basis and build to your preference from there. MIdway USA now sells most of CMMGs .22 parts and when they have their coupon sales you can save up to $100. The last one for $100 off $650 and less off lower values just ended, but knowing them the next will start up before too long. That's what I plan to do when I get around to it/have enough funds. |
| I have a TacSol M4 upper and really like it. I just ran a few hundred rounds of American Eagle through it without any issues. I'll be getting rid of it though since the reason I bought it was for cheap training, and the fact that I can't use the Bolt Hold open or the FA makes me want to go to CMMG. Other than that the TacSol is great. |
