With this - Right Handed .22 Evolution BHOA Kit w/Anti-Jam Charging Handle and 25 Rnd Mag

Does it work with piston on or off? do you have to turn it off or do you just put 22 bolt and mag in and shoot?

The .22 is a blow back system. I don't believe it has anything to do with the piston. However, if you can turn it off, it would hekp keep residue out of the gas system.

Also, if you are using the CMMG Anti-Jam Charging Handle you will need to remove your drive rod/piston (depending on your make & model).
The anti-jam handle has no provision for gas tube, piston rod or drive rod.

If you use the Anti Jam Charging Handle for Drop in Conversions, it will work with the piston. (the picture at that link in currently wrong). The T handle for drop in units has a hole to accommodate a piston or gas tube.
