Anyone have experience with this conversion? I did a search and came up with nothing of substance. This is just for a plinker upper, but I would like it to be somewhat resiliant. Also, what magazines work with them? I am new to the rimfire side of the house and this is part of my wife's annivesary gift to me for when I get home post deployment. Thanks

First of all thank for your service and stay safe.  The Chiappa upper is made in Italy and the upper is made using a polymer upper.  I got to see one of these at a gun shop which also had a Tac Sol M-4.  The Chiappa uses Ciener/Atchisson style mags as those offered by BDM and CMMG.  The barrel is not threaded but the A-2 style flash hider is held on by a set screw.  The Chiappa just looks cheap compared to the Tac Sol which has a very nicely finished aluminum upper and stainless steal bolt with better looking front hand guard.  Is the Tac Sol worth $200 more than the Chiappa that is up to the purchaser.  I've read where Chiappa has good customer service as does Tac Sol and Spikes.   From the schematic the Chiappa uses a similar bolt design as the Tac Sol but just appears to be made cheaper.

I have one, since I got it broken in at about 150 rounds its been flawless. I'm using CMMG and BDM mags in mine, as well as the one that came with it. No issues with any of them. I started it off by shooting CCI Mini-Mags in it, but since its broken in I've switched over to Eley sport which is much cheaper and just about as clean.

Yes it has a polymer upper, that doesn't concern me at all.I replaced the M4 style hand guards with a set of Magpul MOE just because I like the look of them better, removed the front sight and put a cheap railed gas block on it and a red dot from Primary Arms. Its a hoot to shoot, and actually quite accurate. I just been shooting it on my property, haven't shot any groups on paper with it other than when I first sighted it in. One of these days I'll shoot at some paper, however, shooting cans and so forth at 50 - 75 yards, it hits whatever I put the red dot on.

I give it a thumbs up, probably have 500  - 600 rounds through it to date.

Steve, I doubt the Chiappa will be as resiliant as the following:
Spike's ST-22 M4 (complete rifle)
Tactical Solutions (any of the three offerings paired w/lower of your choice)
S&W M&P15-22 (complete rifle)

I've owned and shot extensively the 1st and 3rd of the three, and can attest to their durability.  However, of the three listed, my preference is for the Spike's because of their excellent, fast, customer service.  The St-22 M4 is a quality carbine that comes with a slightly better than rack grade AR-15 lower, the LW barrel is excellent and I doubt if you'll ever shoot it out.  However, most of the weapons sold in this rimfire category, regardless of manufacturer, frequently require some tuning to operate flawlessly.  Whatever your choice, you'll need to try many brands of ammo, both standard velocity and HS, before you find the ones that your gun runs best with.

Come home safe, man, and thanks for your devotion to the U.S. and your comrades in arms.
