With all the new and interesting things coming out with .22 conversion kits... WHY has noone made a reliable, inexpensive mag loader?
Those who have the 26 round mags can get to hate them quickly by how fast you can shoot them, but how long it takes to load them. |
| I used to own an Air Force .22 kit, that used the 30 round length white plastic mags. The spring had an open window the entire length, and the follower had a tab that stuck out. You held down the tab, and could effortlessly drop in rounds. Not sure why someone else hasn't adopted this idea. I've thought of the "tampon string" method, but if that string gets snagged while firing, you're going to FTF. |

| PSA has a Christie Products Black Dog/CMMG AR15/M16 - .22LR Magazine Loader for sale. Look here |

I'm not sure how well those type of mags perform in full auto. The follower tab in the slot (something mags had over a hundred years ago) may add enough extra drag to prevent reliable full auto performance for a .22 gun and that may be why Atchisson did not use it on the ,22 conversion mag design that he did and which is now pretty much the most common type of AR .22 conversion. I don't recall seeing any Ruger 10/22 high cap mags with a slot and follower tab but there might be some. I've had the same high cap Ruger 10/22 mags since the late 1970s so I don't look any more. If you get a Christie loading aid for the Atchission type conversion AR-15 mags, it helps to grind out a little semi-circle in the center of the lower edge of the front lip. Not legal advice, MHO, YMMV, etc. |

BDM used to make these and they are nice because the mag locks in like a mag well.
Don't know why they stopped. (Could sell a ton if the price was right)

I put together 3 of these and did troubleshooting on a 4th. All of them work pretty well (and way faster than handloading). The trick was to get the last cut/notch correct. |
