Been looking at a trainer, but I just can't buy another .22.  I don't plink enough usually, and have enough LRs.  I want something that I can hunt with, and have a 10/22 converted to 17hm2.  I found this upper, but it's the only thing I have found relating the hm2 to an AR.  Has anyone used it, or another like it?

They look like nice uppers but I wonder just how well the BD mags work with the 17Mach2 round. The different shape on the 17M2 usually caused the round to get messed up in a 22lr type mag after a few had been loaded in. Does anybody know if the BD mags work well with the 17 Mach2?

User426,
Do the regular mags work with the 17 Mach2? I've tried to load regular mags for a 17 Mach2 conversion I had and the rounds started to tip nose down after only a few rounds in the magazine –– I haven't tried any of the regular BD mags.

What regular mags do you mean.....If you are talking about ciener mags.....they do not work well.....a lot of falure to feed, and nose diving when loading......

By "regular mags" I was referring to the regular Black Dog mags although I've tried to load 17 Mach2 ammo into many different mags designed for 22lr and had the same problem with the nose of the 17 Mach2 tipping down. The only mags that I found that worked where the Ruger factory 10/22 mags and the teardrop drum mag for the 10/22.

That is good to know! So there are good hi-cap mags that will work with a 17 Mach2 AR upper. Which type of conversion setup is used in your upper –– Ciener, M261, something else? This is something Ocshaman might want to know –– a proven 17 Mach2 upper setup and good hi-cap mags..

User426, what upper are you using? And what are you using it for?

I have a 17hm2 built by Adam at Ballistic Advantage.  I provided everything but the barrel and Adam built it up for me.  He shipped it back to me with a hi-cap BDM mag which I don't use since I would rather use the smaller Ciener 10 round mags which I've modified to hold 13 rounds.  I have not experienced any problems using these mags since I installed the bho followers in them.  The reason I use the 10 rounders is I don't see the need to have one mag with 27 or so rounds when it is more convenient to carry the rifle with the short mag and another one or two in the pocket.  I don't have that many targets of opportunity when I'm out shooting so I don't feel restricted.  After all, my 10/17 only holds 10 rounds per mag so no big deal there.
At any rate, the turtles are no longer safe in the stock pond - ran out of targets before I ran out of boolits!

by the way, the upper is just one I found for sale at Midway last spring.  Nothing special.

Are you using the bull barrel or the standard barrel?

Also, what part of Texas are you in?

Have you shot it for groups?

user, what ammo does it like, and how does it group them?  trying to decide if the extra $200 is worth it.
