I recently purchased an MGI bolt barrel and GG lower for my SBR. After assembly, I found that the rifle functioned perfectly. I was very happy until I found that at 25 yards the bullets seemed to have a mind of their own. I then shot a few rounds into phone books, and couldnt find rifling on them, although the rifling in the barrel looks fine.  I then measured the barrel, and found the grooves to be about .458, and the grooves (lands, sorry) .451. This didnt seem right to me, and doesnt jibe with any of my other 45's. I sent the barrel back to MGI for them to take a look, and they said, "oh yeah, thats in spec, all of our other barrels are like that too. They sent it back, and I got it today.  What do you guys think? What do I do now?

Heres a photo of a lead bullet that I pushed into the bore BY HAND

Heres same bullet from muzzle end:

Pinheads. They bought .45 RIFLE barrels.

I'm pretty sure .45ACP barrels are supposed to be .451 groove.

You have some money coming back or a new barrel coming.

These guys are taking money for building gun parts?

That Sucks. I have an MGI, 7.62 x 39 Barrel. Sure hope it's right. You should send them the barrel and
get more than your money back for having to find this major problem with their product.. If you don't get
action let us know and we can use numbers to rattle their cage. I was seriously considering one of their
45 barrels. So, Thank You for posting this information. They are off my list atleast until this is resolved.

Sounds like this barrel was meant to be 458 SOCOM or similar.

I sent them the barrel and they said it was fine, and in spec with their others! Said it was probably because I shortened it from 16" to 8" (My 5" colt prints 2" at 25 though, doesn't it?) After thinking the previous posts, I think you are right, it was a 458 barrel that got chambered for a .45 auto. I  Threaded it for a Barrett muzzle brake I had lying around. Looks pretty cool on there, but the barrel is useless as-is.

MGI should make this right. If all their barrels are this way they better be admitting it and fixing the problem before it becomes a legal issue. I would think they would wantt to correct the problem....?????

Bet ya money they bought green mountian barrels...those are the dimensions for a 45.70 rifle barrel.......but as you have cut it...I'll bet ya money they void any warranty......

Well....I emailed them a link to this thread so they could take a look at the pics.Who would have ever thought to measure the bore before SBR'ing?  We'll see what happens.

Alright! Everyone was right the specs are for a rifle, and MGI is going to take care of it no problem. Apparently some rifle barrels got mixed in with their .45 acp barrels.
