I got a new cmmg .22 conversion kit at a gun show last weekend. its just a different bolt (not a whole new upper)  i took it to the range and the first 20 rounds it did not jam but the next  magazine it jammed every other round. and when the round jams there loaded in the chamber but it looked like the firing pin did not strike it. if you have any suggestions that would be great.

Ammo can make a huge difference in these kits.  Most will not run with Remington bulk and I have way to many failure to fire to buy any Remington Rimfire ammo.  Most of these kits require a breakin period and it if its the parkerized (dark color) conversion it helps to lube the bolt and rails liberally.  If you are using CCI mini mags or other high velocity ammo and still having problems make sure the bolt is closing completely.  Sometimes there are clearance isses where the bolt can drag on the bolt catch, hammer or top of the mag.  You can also try loading your mags with 10 rounds or less as sometimes the upward pressure on a full magazine is enough to cause malfunctions  especially on a new kit with new mags.  Also check the clearance of the cut out on the chamber insert to make sure the extractor is able to sit fluch and actually have contact with the rim of the case.  If you still can't figure out the problem look at the CMMG tuning thread in the industry section on this site.  If all else fails give CMMG a call and be very specific about the problem.  I feel sure they will get you running or use the warranty to replace a unit if defective.   Without more specific info I really can't give you more specific things to try.

On one of mine the bolt was dragging on the left side magazine feed lip.  I slowly scraped the top of the lip with my pocket knife (3 or 4 scrapes - load a few rounds - shoot them - repeat until there were no malfunctions.)  On mine the bolt was dragging that lip just enough to keep it from going fully closed as it chambered the next round.  That allowed the hammer to fall, but it wasn't really hitting the firing pin hard enough to set off the round as most of the hammer's force went into closing the bolt.

Ah well there's your problem.  Until your conversion kit is well broken it, its going to have difficulty feeding ammo with a rounded nose such as Rem Golden Bullets and CCI MiniMags.  To compound the issue, MiniMags have a very waxy lube which is prone to building up in the chamber and making feeding even less reliable.

I recommend giving your chamber adapter a very thorough cleaning with a copper bush, then running a few boxed of Federal Bulk through it.  Although not the most accurate of ammo, it has a pointier nose than a MiniMag, and no waxy lube to get in the way.
