I have a TacSol M4 upper and 10 magazines. All but one are Black Dogs. My grandson was shooting it Sunday at the range and he inserted the CMMG mag. He was on one lane and I was on another. He came over and got my attention. He couldn't get the gun to fire. I checked it and it had an empty .22 casing sideways between the bolt and the chamber. I cleared the jam, and went back to my lane. Again, he came over and said the gun wouldn't fire. This time there was no jam, but a round did not feed. I fed a round and watched him shoot again. It fired, but did not feed. I noticed that he was resting the base of the magazine on the sand bag. I told him to bring the gun back a couple of inches and just rest the foreend on the bag. The rest of the magazine fed and fired with no problems. I had him insert a loaded Black Dog mag and rest it on the sand bag. 25 rounds with a hitch. The CMMG works OK when it doesn't touch the bag or bench. I notice that it doesn't fit as tightly as the BDMs. I'm guessing that is what causes the problems. He fired a total of 100 rounds, with no glitches, except for the problems with the CMMG mag. Round count is now up to 650 and the upper is working well. Anyone want to buy a 25 round mag cheap?

That was probably a generation 1 magazine from CMMG.
The gen 2 mags have 2 small bumps on the back side to make them
tighter at the bottom of the mag well. I have noticed that they can still
move back and forth at the top though. I'll have to try resting on the
gen 2 mag and see if I can duplicate the misfires. The gen 2's that I
have are 10 and 15 rounders.  It's not really a normal thing to rest the
rifle on the magazine, Leave it to a Kid to find a problem like that.
Reminds me of my own Grandson.

I'll have to check the mag to see if it is a Gen 1 or 2. Thanks for the info - didn't know how to tell before. I have no idea why he was resting it on the bag. Good grief - it was a 25 round magazine no less! He does a surprisingly good job of shooting it though. The only bad thing is that he doesn't want to share. Looks like I either build him one or another one for myself. Now the question is....a TacSol LT for him or a Spikes for me, or....?

Look very closely along the back of the center mag, about half way down. There
is a 1/4 to 3/8" bump, about straight back from the center screw.
It can also be seen on the disassembled mag

Thanks for the pics and info. I forgot to look at mine last night. I'll check it tonight when I get home from work.

My CMMG 26 rd mags have a lot of fore-aft play in my Colt 6920, about twice as much play as a GI 30 rd mag.

When I called CMMG to talk about it; they said that only their 10 and 15 rd mags have the bumps on the back, the 26 rd version does not.  The guy I spoke to said that some folks are doing their own mods (dab of epoxy?) to reduce the play, but there is nothing from CMMG.

Yeah, I just had some new CMMG's delivered and the 15's have bumps and the 26 doesn't, I figured I'd just put some bumps on it myself. I REALLY like their 15 round mags. Looks GI and good plastic. BTW my BDM mags wobble too.

Thanks for the info.
I suspect that CMMG doesn't want to spend big bucks for new molds on the 26 rd mags, can't see any other reason for the difference.  Probably some day the 26 rounders will get their bumps.

It takes a minor mold modification to make the bumps. They
probably want to lower the stock of 26 round gen 1's before they
release the gen 2's.

Nothing wrong with the 26 round mags function other than more wobble
in most lowers....

PS: My BDM'S are very tight in a couple of my lowers, so it all depends on
what you have....
