I took my 9mm build out to the range for the first time today and ran into some problems.

1) What kind of accuracy can I expect from a 9mm build w/ a 7" barrel at 25 yards?  The bullet holes were all over the place and nothing was consistent (lets asume it wasn't the shooter).  Im worried about the consistancy of this gun b/c Im going to attach a AAC Ti-Rant to it once the paperwork comes back.  Baffle strikes on a $1100 suppressor would suck.

2) Geiselle Service Trigger = BIG PROBLEMS.  The trigger would not reset on a lot of the shots.  What trigger are you guys running?  The only other trigger I have to try is a RRA standard trigger.

"All over the place" doesn't really quantify what you're saying, but I'm assuming you mean "well outside the 10 ring in all directions."  At 25 yards I can hit a playing card at least 85% of the time with both my 16" RRA and my home-built 10.5" upper.  That (hopefully) means that there's something amiss with your build.  I assume you're using "good" ammo, not your buddy's (potentially beer-drinking-influenced) reloads...

My thought?  It's your trigger.  If you're having problems getting a fancy trigger to reset, it may be breaking at different levels of pressure too, which would at least pull the gun differently every time you fired.

You need to use a 9MM hammer, a modified m16 hammer or a DPMS type hammer. A hammer with out a notch on the striking side of it, it should be flat.

I have a 5" barreled 9MM AR and I can shoot 5" plates all day long at 25 yards. It is surprisingly accurate.

Whats a good 9mm trigger/hammer to get?  Can I send it to Springfield to get it set at 4 lbs?

You might have some hammer issues if you're running a Geissele trigger in a 9mm AR.   I run a JP trigger in my 9mm AR and it works great.  Who made the barrel, and what do you have on the end of it?

I think the barrel is a Green Mountain Chromoly Match grade barrel, but Im not 100% on that.

The shots were erratic enough that I couldn't sight in the aimpoint micro.

There is a 6" fake suppressor screwed onto the end of the barrel until I get AAC in.

A standard set will work fine.  Go with a DPMS hammer (it's like an M16 hammer but without the hook for the auto sear), which works with EVERYTHING.  And Bill Springfield can indeed set it to 4 pounds without a doubt.

I have the trigger group from my RRA 9mm at Bill's as I type this. Went for the 4lbs. as the 3 seems a little too light for me.

Not to be nitpicky, but you guys do know that it is pretty darn easy to get a single stage AR trigger down to ~4 pounds, right?

All it takes is either tweaking the std trigger/hammer springs or replacing them with a set of JP style springs.  You can also insert a set screw into the lower above the trigger screw to take out some pre-travel, then file the disconnector tip to make sure ti functions properly.  If you have any competency with files/stones, you can also alter the hammer hooks to remove a bit of additional creep/excess pre-travel.

The tweaking of the springs doesn't cost anything (no need to cut any of the spring legs, just bend them both) and the set screw mod is about $.25-50 plus a drop or two of loctite.  If you don't have stones, they can cost you $25+.

Well, I called Springfield and just ordered a DPMS 4lb set from him.  It should be in the mail today so I will try it out next weekend.

I was about to post a thread asking if he answers his emails.  I emailed him on Wednesday and haven't heard back from him yet...  But you've answered my question; he has DPMS kits, which is what I want.

I will bet that fake suppressor could be your target grouping problem?

That's the difference between phone and email.  I'll have to call him during the week, and not bother with email.

I replaced the trigger with a DPMS trigger/hammer modified by Bill Springfield and the gun is now working 100%.  I put 100 rounds through it yesterday and had no malfunctions of any kind.

I went out yesterday and shot in a open shooting bay with no table.  I was just testing the function.  Im going to go back out tomorrow and take the wife and I will probably use a table and see if it will group better.

Update on my comment-calling worked great, and I should have my set (I'm getting an LPK) by next weekend, when I'll have time to do something with it.

Hey archer, where do you shoot?

I shoot at Impact Zone in NW Houston.

I just got back from the range and the 9mm without the fake suppressor groups a lot better.  Guess I will have to get use to the crappy grouping until the Ti-Rant suppressor is approved.
