Got my new build to the range, Spikes Barrel, Spike bolt, DPMS flat top upper and lower, Pics in this post but have a question.  Do you guys run the 22 bolt "wet" like in a normal AR  or relatively dry?  Any grease?

I shot a bunch of different 22LR:

Perfect results on:
Winchester Super-X, Copper, RN
Blazer CCI, 40gr, Lead RN
CCI Stinger, 32gr, Copper HP
Federal American Eagle, 38gr, Copper HP

Occasional FTE or FTF:
Federal Value Pack

Utter crap, won't feed:
CCI Velocitor, Copper, HP
Remington golden bullet, HP
CCI MiniMag, 36gr HP
CCI MiniMag, 40gr, Copper, RN

When the bad ones didn't feed they nosedived into the feed ramp and then bent the bullet.  I was wondering if running the bolt wet would help that?

BTW, blasting away with 22LR is a hoot!

You want to run the rifle fairly dry - just a drop of oil on each rail.

And I will mimic everything you said about the ammo. Looks like yours and mine hate and like the same stuff.

If you get a chance, try some Aguila Interceptor 40 gr. My rifle absolutely loves them.

OK, I'll try it fairly dry next time.  I expect it would help with the cleanup, that 22 is some dirty stuff.

As far as feeding problems with CCI Minimags, there is someone else that posted in Spikes Tactical industry section here in regards to his results. He said he had feeding problems with CCI Minimags in the beginning but after he ran several thousand rounds of Federal bulk pack and a few months later, he had very good results with the Minimags. You could also polish the chamber if you are having feeding problems.

I've only had it out once so far, maybe 500 rounds total.  We'll see how things play out.

I've noticed the ramp getting a bit of lead buildup that seems increase the chance of FTF, resulting in a "bent" round. A little scrubbing with some cleaner or oil clears it up.

As far as lubrication, the wetter I run it the fewer problems I get (maybe 1 out of 150) and the less buildup I see on the ramp.

I don't recommend using lube with our bolt. Best bet is to keep it clean and 1 or 2 drops of oil at the most.

I just placed an order for small trial sizes of Krano Dryphite and Otis Dry Lubricant.  They apparently go on wet but then dry in less than a minute.  Should be a good test.

is the difference that your bolts are nickel plated and the cieners are not??

I found (like posted above) the wetter my ciener the fewer problems I have..

Yes the coating on our bolt is what makes them run dry.

The projectile gets bent because it either catches on a sharp chamber mouth, or rough chamber walls.  After firing many thousand rounds, both these areas will tend to smooth out and make feeding the 'problematic' rounds somewhat easier.  You can accelerate this process by polishing the critical areas using a rotary tool.
