| Is the CMMG Conversion Kit a good kit? Any problems? |
|
CMMG, Brownells, and Black Dog Machine all carry the CMMG .22 kit. Most places tend to be back ordered (some for months) on these kits. There are probably places that sell the CMMG kit too but those are the main one's I've seen mentioned here.
I ordered mine straight from CMMG about a week after they started selling them for something like $299 and it included the .22 bolt and four BMD magazines. I've run over 1000 rnds of mixed Remington Golden Bullet Hollow Point, CCI Standard Velocity, and CCI Mini Mags through the kit without issue. Works flawlessly for me. I get much more range time with the kit due to the cost of .223/5.56 ammo. Kit's paid for itself in just a few range visits. Just make sure to follow the kits directions about firing several rounds of .225/5.56 through the gun after shooting .22 to clear out the gas tube. Others have had issues with the Ciener kits (of which the CMMG kit is based on) with modified triggers, and or non stock AR triggers. And some have had other issues like the rails of the kit needing to be ground down slightly to fit within the receiver area. I've only seen one complaint about a broken kit and that thread is somewhere in this forum (or it may be in the Industry CMMG forum). If you need the full auto version of the Ciener kit, call or email CMMG and check with them, they were supposed to come out with an full auto version of their kit. |

I examined one alongside my Ceiner and the appear to be identical.
The one I eyeballed has worked well for the guy who is running it in two different colts. As mentioned the Ceiner / CMMG (and presumedly the Spikes) will work best with certain ammo (this is SOP with most rimfire semi auto firearms) and certain aftermarket triggers will be fussy or nonfunctioning) My ceiner works well with RRNM,factory AR,and Giselle SR . did not like the jewell. Black Dog Mags are a gift from God! |
