Can someone point me to the link for what the DPMS hammer looks like?  I just opened my DPMS lpk and it looks just like the hammer I have already from my Stag lpk.

Thanks.

Note this one on the left has no notch in the face like the standard AR hammer pictured to the right.
The one on the left is what typically comes from DPMS.

Thanks for the pic.  The one on the left is the same one that came in my Stag lpk, so I guess either one will work.  The only thing different is extra notch in the middle (I'm not sure what its called... maybe the "rat tail").  Like this picture (used from the 9mm FAQ thread):

Since I will also be using this with a 9mm upper, will it matter which one... the left one or the middle one in the above picture???

The one on the left above is an unmodified M16 hammer. The one in the middle is the same hammer, but with the sear notch milled off. The one on the right is a "true" AR15 hammer.

Unless you own a registered M16 I would recommend you cut that tail off the back of the hammer on the left or get rid of it all together.
You can use the left one (with the tail cut off) or the one in the middle for 5.56 or 9mm purposes.

I wasn't talking about that tail, but the notch below it... right about in the middle of the entire hammer.  I'm not sure what that is for.

In the picture,  the hammer on the left is a std M16 hammer.  When COLT builds the 9mm SMG, all they do is set a 9mm upper on the M16' select fire lower and run with it.

The hammer in the middle is a M16 hammer with the "auto-sear" lug removed, making it semi-auto legal.

The hammer on the right is the common everday "AR-15" - ".223" - "semi-auto" hammer found in any common AR-15.

I commonly refer to the hammer as a "SP-1" (SPORTER) hammer, as it is for semi-auto use.... the cutout ("V" notch) at the top of the hammer face is to work along with  the cut/ramp on the common AR-15 carrier in such that if some enterperising individual were to render the disconnector inop, the hammer follow (and notch on hammer face) would catch on the collar of the fire pin and halt the carrier forward movement a good bit short of fully closing so the firearm does not go into a cyclic fire mode.

The part on the back of the hammer (arrow in the picture below) is for the disconnector to catch the hammer with.
