Waaay back when, I bought a Colt .22 conversion.  I used it a little in an AR15A2 and it seemed to work pretty well, I don't recall many malfunctions and accuracy was at least plinkin' good.  Only problem was the 10 rd mags, I've got several but the frequent loading is a PITA.  My understanding is that no one makes a 20-30 rd mag for the Colt unit, although some folks are experimenting.  Correct?

Back then, people told me that the .22's would lead up my bore and gas tube.  I didn't use the unit a lot but never noticed any problems.  Correct?

Other conversions available are from Spike's and CMMG (?), both pretty new.  Does anyone have comments on how well they work, accuracy, leading problems, etc?

I've got one of the CMMG units.

Only got a hundred rounds of Rem. golden bullets through it but it worked fine (once we oiled it) and shoots good, too.  At least as good as with .223 ammo.  We didn't see any leading issues.

Black Dog Machine is working on High Capacity Colt Conversion Mags.
There is no leading issue (30,000+ rounds experience). WalMart Federal Bulk 22's, Copper washed Bullet, diameter.223/.224. I shoot hundreds, atleast once a week. Accuracy depends on the rifle being fired. 1 in 9 and slower twist work best. I have one that will hold the Bullseye at 25 yards all day. Most will hold the 10 ring offhand. that depends on the shooter. Most will hold within the black at 50 yards.
Shoot and be Happy,,, and smile a lot.

This link will take you to the thread I started about converting a BDM mag to work with a Colt conversion. If you read the entire thread BDM is working on a Colt/DPMS specific mag. From everything I've read on here it should be ready for testing sometime early January.

I love the rimfire !
No real issues with leading and gas tubes. (I never went for the "you have to shoot a mag of 223 to blow out the gastube every time you use the conversiom" tale)
All  I shoot is semi , full might be different
You do get some  gritty dirt down in your trigger but no big deal ,the couple of added minutes is nothing compared to the fun of cheep shooting
