Just got done building my first 9mm AR and took it to the range. It goes bang, cycles another round into the chamber but the trigger does not reset unless I pull the charging handle all the way back. It seems like the bolt is just is not traveling far enough back to cock the hammer but I am not certain. Wonder if anyone has any advice or things to look for? I tried it on my .223 lower and I couldn't manually cycle it (.223 hammer) but wanted to just make sure the ASA was not designed to be used with a standard hammer.

Here is the combo:

ASA 9mm Upper/BCG
ASA Mag Block
RRA 9mm Buffer
Unknown brand 9mm hammer
Colt, ProMag, and Modified UZI mags
115gr Blazer ammo

It is your hammer that is causing the problem. Get the DPMS M16 hammer with the end that is cut off. I as well as many people on this forum have had the same issue at some point.:D]

If you use the dpms hammer, you should have your bolt ramped.  I would change the spring anyway too.

Anyone else know where I can get a heavy duty disconnect spring? That place linked above wanted $11 dollars shipping and would not ship USPS for me. Lame

That spring is NOT going to solve your issue. The hammer is your issue. When I say get the DPMS hammer, trust me. It will solve your problem.

Thought I would share my findings for others having the same issue. I found a hammer that looks like the dpms hammer with the round corner instead of the notch and what do you know, it works! Ran a few mags through it today with out a single failure. THanks for the tips guys!

Crap, this means I'll have to find out if my DPMS lower is out of spec.  I thought the DPMS hammer was what was causing the lockup.
