I just purchased a RRA 9MM carbine.  I want to be able to switch back and forth with this 9MM upper and a 16" .223 upper and want to know what my best options are as far as trigger/hammers, buffers and springs. The trigger on the 9MM is pretty poor. I have an RRA .223 with a 2 stage match trigger and it is quite good.

I seem to remember reading where the DPMS style hammer was what was needed for switching back and forth, so I was searching threads to make sure, but I saw where Bigbore said the RRA 2 stage match trigger would work with the 9MM bolt as long as it is ramped. That would work well, of course, but is the DPMS hammer another option as well? (I have it already) I definitely want to improve the trigger, and just want to know what all the options are.

Any recommendations on what trigger/hammer, what buffer, and what spring would be best for swapping uppers back and forth would be much appreciated.

Thanks, AC

I shot it today after work. It shoots great. Trigger control was not as bad as expected from dry firing at home. After I sighted it in, hitting clay pigeons at 50 yards was relatively easy. Shooting ragged one hole groups at 25 was too. Now all I need to do is decide on which route to go with triggers, buffers, and springs. I ordered a set of X-high Burris rings to remount that long Aimpoint 5000.

Glad you like it,
the trigger should smooth out a little bit with use.

I've found the best setup for switching uppers is:
RRA 9mm buffer, DMPS hammer, ramped 9mm bolt is a good idea.

No need to switch springs at all.

But, i prefer to take the extra 30 seconds and switch buffers too- Slash's Q-Buffer for 9mm and H2 for 5.56mm

I second the DPMS hammer-that will let you run just about any upper you want on that same lower.  I got one so I could run my .223 upper with a .22 adapter in it on the 9mm lower, but like I said, I can run anything on it.
