You guys are so helpful in researching stuff, I thought I'd ask if anyone could point me to a good complete .22lr upper.  I want to find something that isn't going to break the bank, and help me into the ar community with my first built.  I want 22 obviously, because of the cheap ammo!  Any help and pointers would be greatly appreciated!

And, I say Spikes too. I can really relate to them as they are here in Florida, Friendly, and Helpful. I haven't hesitated a second buying their products again and again.

Check out rcsguns.  They built my upper using my 10/22 barrel, upper, freefloat handguard, and Ciener kit and put together a really nice project.  No problems at all.
btw, RCS is an industry partner on arfcom.  They'll even sell you a suppressor for that upper if you do the paperwork.

After reading all the good reviews on Spikes uppers, I ordered my ST-22 M4, with 4 full-size, 10-round magazines today. The long wait begins. At the club I belong to we have a Junior Sportsmen Club were on Thursday nights we teach children ages 8-14 learn to shoot using single shot .22s and then up to .22 bolt action repeaters. I will incorporate the little black rifle when I get it into the mix, which should make those boys really smile. The best part of the program is watching the smiles on kids faces when they hit the targets.

best regards,

Luis Leon

If I was to do it again I would not go with a dedicated upper. I would use a 1x12 twist barrel and an unmodified Ciener kit.

Accuracy will be almost or as good as a dedicated upper and you will have the versatility of shooting .223 if you want to.

I think the 14.5" 1x12 Colt barrels up on the EE would be ideal with a Sabre long A2 flash hider permanently installed.

My plan is to just get a decent 1/12 barrel and put it in the spare upper I have sitting around.  I already have an M261, and some Black Dog magazines, so all I really need is the barrel.  Kurts seems to have the best price on just a barrel ($225), but they're the only people I've seen offer JUST the barrel...

This is 50 rounds at 50 yards from a surplus A1 1x12 20" gov. profile barrel and a Ciener kit and federal bulk 550 Walmart ammo

1. Are your 22LR M4 uppers still backordered?

2. Any reason why I couldn't use a YHM Mite suppressor on it?

1. Are your 22LR M4 uppers still backordered? 6-8 weeks, Its goes by pretty quick and most people say its well worth the wait. .

2. Any reason why I couldn't use a YHM Mite suppressor on it? No reason why you cant run a Mite on it.

To each their own. There are advantages to Spikes upper that no one else offers. The main one is the bolt/carrier. Plated and smooth to the point that it can be run bone dry. I use 1 drop of oil on each rail. That translates into a very clean assembly. Cleaning is a breeze but the other advantage to that is longer time shooting without the action getting gummed up. Cieners have to run wet. Upgraded firing pins, springs, and customer service if you do have a problem that you will NEVER get from JAC. I've got both and I can tell you I have never regretted getting my Spikes upper. I like having my Ciener for the fact that I can switch from .22 to .223 in my other rifles. But truthfully, I've not used it since I bought the Spikes. And my Ciener certainly is not as reliable as the Spikes unit. If you only had one AR I can understand why you would want the Ciener. But to build one from scratch, you are not saving much for something that might run fine or might be a head ache. And you are still stuck with no customer service. I would at least wait until Spikes starts selling the drop in kits. Trust me, they are so much better that JAC's when you can shoot them side by side as I have.
